Replace?

The question shoudln't be about replacement. Leon deserves his place as he was insanely good when we went up via the playoffs. Sure, he fell out with the boss and left, but he wasn't the only one. The question should be, why the hell wasn't Gary Hart on the Legends wall in the first place?

Knight was the spearhead of that play off season-without his goals we would have floundered,it was a good job we bounced back up that season imo even if we were struggling for the next 2 seasons in the championship.

Gary Hart should be up there but sometimes i think people are too quick to jump on Leon's back....i would be interested to see how we would have fared as a club without winning at Cardiff that day.

I assume it's a huge piece, I haven't seen it yet.

I suppose we all have differing ideas on a legend but, in my eyes, the nucleus of the side that brought the first championship title to the club in 35 years deserves to be on the wall and that definitely includes Paul Rogers and Gary Hart. There are obviously other major moments and players that gave great service for consideration.

Yes Hart should be there somewhere but it should not be forgotten the part Knight played in the play off season and he should not be taken down
One season! And we weren't even good enough to get automatic promotion and had to sneak up through the playoffs. Granted Knight played a role for us, he was an excellent stiker and I won't deny it, but HUNDREDS of players over the years have contributed to promotion seasons and haven't been included. Where's the likes of Adrian Thorne or Willie Irvine? (To name but two players far more deserving of 'Legend' tag than Knight).

It's a bit like Sky Sports not acknowledging that there was football before the Premiership - Brighton had a history long before the start of the 21st century and 'Legends' shouldn't be all about the modern era with just the odd nod to the past.

As they were, granted there were a lot from recent history but they had pictures of some from yesteryear (including Garry Nelson which made me very happy). It is always going to be open to debate who was up there but I feel that Knight deserves his place for scoring lots of goals in the play off season including the one at Cardiff that sent us lot home very very happy

Actually I wouldn't even count Garry Nelson as 'yesteryear'! The bottom line is that, I suppose inevitably, far too many 'Legends' of the modern era (last 20 years) were included at the expense of more deserving, but older heroes. For example I would also have included Michael Robinson, Gordon Smith, Chris Catlin, Andy Rollings, Tony Towner, Ian Melllor and Tommy Cook (I may have missed them in which case I'm happy to be proved wrong!)

But if Leon Knight is a 'legend' then so is Glenn Murray.

I think that there are too many people from the Withdean years up as legends - Yes they were good but it seems to me not enough players from the Goldstone years.

Totally agree.

What about Steve Gatting for example? Or me? Even my trousers were legendary!

Seriously though, Gatting was a great servant to the club with over 300 appearances in 10 years.

Not enough Goldstone legends on the wall... its a shame the club didn't carry out a survey for the fans to vote for their legends.

Didn't Knight go public in the press, slagging us off and wishing relegation on us. Not a legend in my book.

Does he? McGhee almost dropped him for the final, due to his antics and misbehaviour. Leon is legendary because of his behaviour and his acrimonious exit, he is definitely not a legend, in my eyes.

His behaviour during his spell and after his spell, surely discounts him from being anywhere near the legend status. I am surprised that he appeared. I don't know how many are shown, but there must be more than 50 people that did more for this club.

100% agree BoF, Knight is a nasty little twat that pisses people off wherever he goes.

When he has actually left and started playing for his new team I'm SURE will happen!

Just released and floating around now isn't he? Think rumour was he had contract sorted just not signed till after SSC had finished other day?

I'll never forget when Knight threw his black armband on the floor in a strop. Class act.

There's no way he's above Harty in that list. No way. Ever.

Was surprised by a couple of players on the wall of legends and a few who weren't there.

No Kuipers - we had t shirts proclaiming him (rightly imo) as an Albion legend, but didn't appear.
No Stuart Storer - Last ever goal scorer at the Goldstone
but Guy Butters? Charlie Oatway? and Leon Knight? - who played there parts over the years but are not true legends imo.

Spot on.

With you all the way on this. Well nearly. Michael Robinson and Gordon Smith are definitely oversights if not there

Under your skin.
I'm too young to remember the Goldstone, BUT when it comes to Withdean legends, shirely it has to go

1) Zamora
2) Hart
3) Cullip
4) Kuipers

Then a massive gap, followed by the likes of Mayo, Oatway, Carpenter etc.
