I may be wrong but I believe the club may have a number of trialists at presesaon training as they do every season. The fact that one of them is 30 rather than 18 or 19 makes very little difference to the way that they will attack this. I am also fairly sure that the time taken up with these 'trialists' will not be to the detriment of either the existing 1st team squad or any players that Gus is considering bringing in and in fact will be an extra option of players to look at.
As Gus said “It’s just something between me and somebody I trust". This person is obviously somebody whose opinion Gus values and rates.

Pygmalion, with Gus in the role of Henry Higgins, and Christian Roberts as Colonel Pickering.

.. of course we know how it turns out. Higgins (Gus), polishes Eliza (Leon) to an acceptable level, but then she rejects him and marries a young poor chap.

Expect Leon to impress pre-season, then sign for Plymouth...

think Number 9 is in Cardiff working on another book but Leon is still with us and getting fitter. I wouldn't read too much into his outlasting other triallists as he is clearly a special case/project and won't be let go as long as he stays committed and continues to improve his fitness. Don't read anything into that in terms of a potential contract though. I would think that would be very long odds although I do wonder if he might get some game time in the 22 player kickabout at Burgess Hill this weekend? Maybe too soon for him though. Last I saw from Number 9's tweets he was still defending his corner against all comers and as of Tuesday I think it was he was reporting that three or four league clubs had made tentative enquiries about Leon's fitness. You could guess that maybe Plymouth and Swindon were among them if true but that is purely conjecture. My feeling is that another club may benefit from our work by engaging in the next stage of the lad's rehabilitation but time will tell.

Afternoon chaps, unfortunately, as you have heard, Leon's time with you is now over. The club are close to 2 new signings, and with Leon battling to be fully fit, it was going to be a big ask for him to break into the team. After discussing the situation with the manager it was decided that at 30 years of age, and having not played for 8 years, he needed to be somewhere where he would be playing, and starting regularly. On the plus side Gus was very complimentary about Leon's talent and has offered to speak to a few clubs in order to secure Leon a trial. At this moment in time Bristol Rovers, Swindon and Plymouth are all interested so hopefully Leon will review the situation and link up with one of them this week. Leon's goal has always been to make a football league return, playing in the championship would have been a dream come true, but it was always a big ask. After two weeks of top quality coaching and training he is much fitter and im sure that getting a contract in League Two is within his reach. At times Leon looked fantastic in practice matches and has definitely proven that he still has something to offer in the professional game. Good luck for the rest of the season, you have a top class manager and a superb squad of players. Mackail Smith was looking unbelievably sharp in shooting practice so im sure he will be a good signing. Looking forward to your visit to Cardiff on August 17th, should be a cracking game! Thanks to all of you for your interest in Leon's story, hopefully we will soon have a happy ending!

Hope things work out well for him and he gets a contract somewhere.
Thanks, too, Number9 for keeping us posted.

Let us know what develops. Crawley, maybe?

Good luck to Leon.

I don't suppose as a farewell gift you'd like to tell us who the signings are? Or at least position? Club coming from? Go on!

Don't let him lose motivation whatever you do and keep us in touch with how he is getting on. Hopefully one or two of the clubs you mention will offer a trial and fingers crossed one of them works for him.

Looking forward to buying the book :D
