Well the club had to do something given Covid safety measures and digital tickets. So keeping things the same wasn't an option.

And I'm sure a cheaper scheme - might encourage some take up/reduce friction - although i guess there are all sorts of economic reasons , aside from the membership fee, for encouraging Albion + membership. The ability to being able to market tickets/merch/etc to someone who has already attended a game is valuable for the club.

but we already know that several ST holders and non ST holders on here have already expressed objection to the idea of any fee/extra cost in principle. .

And of course several ST holders on here - and i guess a fair few more - presumably not engaged with threads like this or NSC or social media - are also quite happy with the scheme and are using it given -* for them * its marginal cost / ease of use.

Also there will be a percentage - perhaps the highest percentage given the pandemic - who can't attend for holiday, Covid, weddings, general health reasons - who aren't that bothered about ensuring their ticket is taken - regardless of a scheme being in place (free or fee), or whatever the club do (tweaking the exchange service ) for example. Their reasons for non attendance are largely beyond the clubs control .

And its pretty remarkable given everything that so many season ticket holders and 1901 club members have renewed this season. - I guess the ability to change the name on a season ticket, move your season tickets with ease, having a ticket sharing scheme (even one that costs) , continue to pay by direct debit with no fees, subsidised travel., the flexibility with refunds/ last season's credit policy, and keeping prices frozen might have helped there.

I think next season will be a different story.
I don't think a lot of people, myself included understood how the ticket system worked.

I do now and I very much doubt I'll be renewing but will buy the odd ticket on adhoc basis

Thats pretty hard to project but yes agreed there will be , as there always is, a percentage of users next spring who will decide to give up their ticket based on changed circumstances.
I'm sure that ticket sharing is a factor for some in that decision - and the club did outline how it was going to work in their marketing of new tickets in the spring - but for many it will be the all the other more normal things (moved, job change, don't like Graham Potter, we keep losing games, kids gone to university, cost , other things to do on a Saturday afternoon).

It seems this may help prevent empty seats if we followed this.

That's basically what the ticket exchange is for, but the club don't release them until ALL other tickets are sold. Would make more sense to make them available when there are a percentage of GS tickets left.

ST sharing has only ever been offered for this season.

He has answered the query about empty seats.If ST sharing were deterring people from legally passing on their tickets then there would be higher numbers of ST no shows than usual for the time of year. There aren’t.

I know ST sharing is currently one season only.........why does that mean the overall policy won't be reviewed for next season ? It's bound to be reviewed.

I'm not 100% sure I believe the stuff re empty seats. It's definitely been emptier around where we sit - not seen as few seats occupied for several seasons. As others have said, let's see what happens now the hols are over......................as per earlier post I have humble pie ordered just in case.

Here are their guidelines

To help keep stadiums COVID-19 secure, clubs are encouraged to operate a digital-first policy. This assists with:    

• Reducing any contact risk connected to printing or handling paper tickets  
• Supporting data capture for essential information (eg. contact details)   
• Matchday with queries relating to lost or stolen tickets  
• Reducing ticket touting, limiting stadium access to people who have not completed the relevant point of sale checks 

Other ticket formats, including paper tickets or access cards, may be produced and issued at the discretion of the host club.

Yes I’d read that. Encouraged. Not a rule - just saying… things could have stayed the same. And don’t even get me started on people who do t want to own a mobile phone or a smart phone. If they try that one without an option in future it will alienate more fans and lose more season tickets…

Thing is it’s not a great scheme for those sharing a ticket is it - as last season they’d just share the card between them and one would pay the other for the games they went to which is no different now. It’s one big scam to make money I’m afraid, that no other club is doing!

Don’t disagree with that. I think a sensible solution would be to let people pass on the ticket for up to 6 games to someone else with a fan number - then this doesn’t happen!

I hadn't thought of it quite like this, but essentially you could conclude they've legitimised the 50/50 ST sharing that was already happening for minimal cost, and in doing so peed off a % of supporters who very occasionally lobbed a ticket to a pal

Can i also point out that though it has been said on this thread that st prices have been frozen i like many others am getting less space for the same money ! so surely that could be argued as an increase or am i being too pedantic ?

Think it'll be given almost a full season by the club, and then assessed..............I'm already looking forward to the very long and very detailed email just before ST renewal time

Question about the park and ride, I presume this could fill up fast at Devils dyke and the racecourse due to issues with parking and trains? Might have to leave extra early to get a space!

I am constantly amazed by people treating the executives at our club as the enemy. Even if you could conduct this experiment what would be the controls that determine the causality ? Just fitting the data to your preconceived evidence-less half baked theories wouldn’t actually tell you that much. I was just refuting the false idea that actual attendance is down for the time of year. If it were then that would be something entirely different and the causes would need looking at. It wouldn’t automatically be attributable to ticket sharing just because you don’t like the scheme.

Never said he’s my enemy or I didn’t like the idea although I dont just said he would never admit if he was wrong.

The only criteria for him being right or wrong are achievement of the stated objectives of the scheme ie moving private ticket sales to ST sharing, encouraging more people to buy general admissions tickets, expanding the Albion + membership, providing a legal method for the Covid nervous to pass on their tickets and future compliance with Government Covid requirements. Persuading people who feel entitled to control who sits in their seat and/or sublet are not factors in the club’s calculations.

The club have been pretty flexible (and rightly so) with mobile phone resistant fans that deserves credit. They've issued physical tickets for free for fans who requested it in advance and they also make it available to those buying one off tickets if you request it in time.

PS: the club aren't losing season ticket holders this season, they're gaining them.

Your not really suggesting it is nice of club to give people a ST card for free. My phone is old and if club wanted to charge me extra on the £700 I pay I am sorry but even though have attended for years would not renew . I think club has to be careful with the greedl. Going to Albion is a habit same as not going is

People are always threatening to leave if they don’t get their own way. It’s not much of a threat. The accusation of greed can be leveled the other way at people who want something for nothing. 8 % per season don’t renew for a variety of reasons. The club will live with it

I didn't say they'd been nice - just that they deserved credit on here from the OP for acknowledging your need (and my 84 year old father as it happens) and being flexible to support him whilst introducing the change for everyone else. There's been multiple posts this summer from some users on here insisting that this wasn't an option.
