The Fatherland
On the way out of the ground there was a bit of homophobic nonsense from a handful of West Yorkshire's finest.

One inadequate bloke on his own started shouting "we can see you holding hands" before eyeballing me ... and my wife, who told him to "go home, you big baby". He appeared to be gobbing at people, or at least in their general direction.

Another group had a brief singalong of "1-0 to the [David?] batty boys" as they headed towards the station.

I haven't heard this kind of stuff for a while. It almost seems quaint these days.

Not really enough to get too worked up about, but enough to remind me that a lot of Leeds fans have always seemed a bit ... special.

I’m sure it’s easier for white straight people to think this way. But no so otherwise.

Whilst everyone has disagreed with you regarding this. From the SWC today, we came across as very quiet, especially in the first half. You could see the NW corner fans singing and jumping around but could barely here them, due to the acoustics in the ground. I did explain this to Leeds fans on the train back to London about the East stand being the family stand but most wasn’t having any of it.

Ah that's a shame. I'm not sure I buy the acoustics excuse as you can hear away fans from the North if they're singing in unison. It's a shame that we're the best we've ever been but the Amex is the quietest it's ever been (imo) at the moment for whatever reason. It sounded OK on the stream/radio but only in comparison to Newcastle which was terrible atmosphere wise

For what it’s worth the farting in the West Upper was loud and certainly created an atmosphere. :drink:

I don’t buy into the acoustic argument, the south isn’t really any different from the north in size, structure or materials.

Away fans typically will always be loud as it’s driven by giving a good account of yourselves.

Watching the West Ham game, apart from bubbles it was all Brighton on the tv.

I’m in the west lower (north end) and would say the away end was overly louder on occasion

Leeds is a typical Northern dump and it’s fans are a bunch of ****ing mutants.

I lived up in the area 20 plus years ago when I worked for the old Bradford and Bingley - in my own experience, the statement that generally Northerners are more friendly than Southerners was definitely true and I had a great time up there and could have quite happily and willingly relocated up to Leeds for life if the pull of returning to Brighton wasn't so strong for me in 2002. Leeds was/is a great city in my opinion.

That said, when it came to football and Leeds United in particular, many people/friends become more than a little...........precious/insular/entitled/down right obnoxious
Their love of the club turned decent people into annoying idiots at times.

You just KNEW that their travelling fans would be d1cks.......when I had the choice of Leeds this weekend or Leicester next week to go with my son it was a no-brainer for me. Didn't want him to see/hear their nonsense

I don't get this view that the Amex was quiet on Saturday. From my seat in West Upper I thought the singing was pretty decent overall. OK, we don't sing all game as we would away from home ... but that's the same for every team. I'm in block F and there's a guy a few rows behind me with a low gruff voice that was getting us all started throughout the game ... sometimes singing when the North seemed a bit quiet.

I quite like that. We should sing that to them :)

I met a few on the train home who were quite pissed but generally good humoured and reasonable. Though if I had a quid for every time they said "No disrespect to Brighton, like, but....", I'd have about twenty three pounds.

Also think that we need to measure the response here. Yes, Leeds have plenty of whoppers following them, but unfortunately we have our fair share too. You'll see them on the train to Fulham on Tuesday, singing crap songs about paying other people's benefits (which I always think seems quite unlikely, looking at some of them) and telling literally every other club in the world that their support is ****ing shit or rolling out the ancient and tiresome "Sign On" at Anfield. They're also perfectly capable of being racist: I've heard the Bolasie/ Ebola song plenty of times over the years and there's one for Zaha too which escapes me momentarily. These idiots, of course, wouldn't see either of those as racist, but I've never heard a song about Ebola being sung at a white player.

to be honest if there's one set of fans that you can't sing "we pay your benefits" at it's the sourdough munchers up at Fulham

I was able to show my son what it was like growing up in the 80’s as we navigated the coach park, character building!

I use the word fans very lightly!
Anyone else get shoved abused or thumped, pushed over by these morons in the queue for the Brighton train?
Stewards laughed when they pushed over the barriers and ran to take out a bloke on crutches!
Police notable by their absence!
Either ban them or keep them in for an hour!
Absolute animals!

Goodness me you would have had palpations had you been at the bottom of the steps leading up to hove station in the goldstone days when Leeds brought huge numbers.

Just for balance, I went to a family wedding in Manchester and almost without exception, the Northern contingent were rude, turned away when we spoke to them or completely ignored us and were about as unfriendly as could be. The train back was equally unfriendly, filled with Burnley fan homophobic anti Southern twats who couldn't wait to harangue us once they heard our accents.

I attended the Charlton V Leeds match a couple of weeks later played at Selhurst park with a couple of Charlton supporting chums . Remember being pelted by coins from the Leeds " fans " in the stand above the terrace we were in . Otherwise an enjoyable day out with Leeds loosing 1 nil in the first ever division 1 play of final

With all due respect, how do you know that?

Every club has it's goons. Leeds' support was changed a great deal when our own Howard became their manager, and cleared the Spearhead sellers off their terraces

Every time I've seen Leeds fans up close, maybe a dozen times, I've seen a much higher level of spite and aggro than you get from fans of most other clubs. The contrast between them and the Newcastle fans 2 weeks ago was unbelievable; is their aggressive arrogance a Yorkshire thing?

No, I don't think it is.

Wednesday fans are equally arrogant, but not quite so objectionable.

Sheffield United, Doncaster, Huddersfield...always seem like a good bunch in my experience.

Leeds fans can be grouped with those of Chelsea, Millwall and Cardiff. It's not a regional affliction.

Not forgetting that Middlesbrough is really in Yorkshire too.

Only just outside due to a silly reshuffle of ancient county boundaries in the 70’s.

Many of their thick as sh1t knuckle draggers have the same traits as Leeds.

At the game in the NS, it was really good on Saturday, especially considering we didn’t get the break through goal til late-ish.

Imho, because the team put in a stunning performance from the off.
