Leeds buying QPR's Clarke Carlisle?

Leeds close in on Carlisle

Leeds boss Kevin Blackwell is close to signing defender Clarke Carlisle from Queens Park Rangers.

The 24-year-old's contract is up at QPR and he is now set to become Leeds' second summer capture following the signing of Danny Pugh.

The official Leeds website reported Carlisle was due to undergo a medical before the move goes through.

Carlisle is a former England Under-21 international who began his career at Blackpool before signing for QPR.

If I was Holloway, I'd be severely narked off with Carlisle...he stood by him during his "drinking problems" days and this is how he repays QPR, by buggering off!!!

I'm no QPR fan, far from it, but they (the club) did the right thing by Carlisle and he basically sticks two fingers up at them

A lot of our lot are going off on one because as has been said the club gave him a lot of support when it hit the fan with his drinking and he's now walking on a Bosman.

In his defence, he has been saying for some time he wants to go back up north to be near his family and his child. He's definitely lost something since doing his cruciate and as he joined us in the Gerry Francis days, I reckon he was on a very nice contract.

So IF he passes the medical tomorrow, Leeds United will be signing a central defender with a potentially dodgy knee and a drink-related problem and potentially we've offloaded one of our higher earners.

That may sound like I'm having a go at him but I'm not. He comes across as a very nice bloke and he always gave 100% (and a bit more where Leon Knight is concerned ;) ). I just think he's a risky signing for any team because of his problems.

Sounds perfect for Leeds then.

I thought he was a better defender than Shittu.

Shittu is a big, immobile lump who QPR fans worship to the extent they can't see his total lack of distribution and inability to do anything other than punt the ball into the back of the stand.

Reckon he for one will get seriously found out in Division 1.

Leeds need to sign some players with personal problems now that Bowyer, Woodgate and Morris have moved on. Carlisle sounds like the perfect start.......
