Now tell me he thought no one was injured. I am sure that if you are involved in an accident and the police suspect you have been drinking they can request a breathtest or take you to the nick for a blood test. If you don't you can be charged with failing to provide a breath test. I don't think it is a case of they may or may not bother! .
They could only breatherlyse him if he was at the scene of the accident or could be found, whether it be in hospital at his home down the pub or whereever. If his 'uncle' had taken him to Bristol and kept him indoors for 3 days they couldnt breatherlyse him if they didnt know where he was. 3 days later he comes to and goes with his solicitor to the police and walks out with a driving charge at the most but not causing death through drunken driving. It is a legal loophole and standard get out but as it has been used a few times the police will try to invoke you into proving that you hadnt in fact lost your memory and knew what you were doing.
