We had a sponsored swim in our middle school's new swimming pool when it opened, and David Wilkie came along. Every one of us had an individual photo taken with him, with us in our swimming costumes.

I'm guessing it wouldn't happen these days.

He did that at the King Alfred as well (back in the days of the major pool and minor pool, both covered by the sports hall now). I think my mum still has the picture.

When I was working at a sports centre, our car park was borrowed by a film crew making "Still Crazy", not absolutely sure of the title, starring Bill Nighy, Billy Connelly and Timothy Spall. I may have caught him on a bad day but Spall was rude and stupid, the other two were great.

I recall getting dragged to a couple of those pro-celebrity golf tournaments in the 1980s. So if we're talking unimpressive celebrities, I pretty much had (probably still have) the full set in some dusty autograph book somewhere.

Forsyth, Tarby, Kenny Lynch (didn't even know who he was at the time), Roger de Courcey (book also signed by Nookie Bear ), Bernie Clifton, Russ Abbot: in fact I could staff an entire episode of Blankety Blank with lame celebrities I 'met' in that period.

The most humiliating bit is, one year I met Tarby, & my Dad takes a picture of me with him  Just for good measure I'm wearing an orange kagoule and a Thorpe Park baseball hat with comedy rabbit ears on at the time. In my defence, I was about nine. Anyway, the next year, we're at the same tournament again, and I had to take the copy of the photo with me in order to get Tarby to sign it  The shame

We had a few of those events at the club where I was a member. The best bit was when the young kids would go up to the group of players with their autograph books and say "which one of you is famous?"

After a Rory Gallagher gig on his last ever US tour (second one I saw on that tour), Slash got dragged on for a solo-duel with Rory (legend, Slash was not worthy). Being as G'nR drank next door at The Rainbow and it was my regular bar, the twat in the hat was lounging in the entrance-way after it was over.
I mentioned that it would be my dream to play with Rory, and he just did a snooty turn away like I should have been awed by his presence or something, and said nothing.

Around that time I'd worked on their November Rain vid and was fairly impressed. Slash likes to claim he was one of few people ("one in a million who knew who he was") into Rory in L.A., but it was a packed house of people roaring for Rory.

I'd met Rory at the previous show and he was really a humble bloke, and mentioned how he always loved playing Brighton - so there was a great who really lived up to and beyond his ability.

I went to one of those once and Kenny Lynch's ball hit me. He was very apologetic. I didn't know who he was either.

Peter Andre, he was staying and filming a reality tv programme in the same hotel as me in Courchevel a few months back. I spoke to him briefly, and I must say, he appears to be a genuinely friendly gent and a sincere family man....but what is it he does these days?

As an aside, the hotel asked if anyone had an issue with the presence of ITV cameras in the hotel to get in touch. During a late night conversation in the bar a friend made out another friend was a significant Romanian MP and had reservations about the cameras. This snowballed a bit though, and amongst various things they offered to obtain Romanian wines for our dinner and Romanian newspapers for breakfast. The whole thing was a bit surreal.

The episode was on tv this week.
