Also - watch cartoons that you know really well (finding nemo was the best for me) with the languages subtitles, or in the other language with english subtitles - it's amazing how much you'll pick up

I watched Popeye cartoons, and now I can speak Spinach

Landed in Chile with no Spanish,and it's amazing how quickly you learn when you have to.

My Spanish phrase book told me there was fog over Bogota,not a lot of use when you need something to eat in Santiago!

By the time I reached Brazil by a circuitous and lengthy route I was almost hopeless at it,and in Brazil,as you all know,they speak..........
