You’re right! Trossard did not do himself or the club any favours.
Why ? He’s moved to the team at the top of the premier league. It’s worked out fine for him

Are we the victims of our own success?

When Maupay failed to score for a few games, I commented that Maupay hadn't suddenly got worse, but that the club had moved on without him. I also commented that it took us a long time to realise that we were a worse team with Maupay in it.

Are we seeing the same with Trossard? Lallana's clip tells us that the club isn't concerned that Trossard is leaving. Maupay and Trossard are no longer with us, but we are scoring for fun. 5-1, 4-1, 3-0. This didn't happen when they were in the team. Goals are now coming from all over the pitch. We will miss Trossard's contributions. We wish him well. But let nobody fear his departure will hinder or prevent our progress.

The club is bigger than any player.

Very disappointed about this. But I won't be wishing him harm, just thanks for what he has done. Personality clashes just happen.
Personality clash my arse. He has contrived this move from start to finish since late last year before the World Cup. He told us we were a stepping stone and we were. He doesn't care at all about whether Albion get a good fee or any fee. He simply wants a Top 6 club, Champions League football and more money. A final big payday contract at 28. It's a job and he wants to monetise his talent and his career with money and glory. Fair chance he has achieved both and will be delighted at the outcome. This is what he signed up for as a footballer. Job done. 5 appearances off the bench and he might be able to claim a EPL winners medal. Champions League football pretty much nailed on for next season. Big money on tap. I'd say from his point of view, he and his agent have played a blinder.

All of this. Luckily we’re run and owned by a genius, who replaced him with a Uni student for £3m.

I hope he enjoys warming the bench. I fear he’ll be a little used sub at most. Some players have a very inflated sense of self worth and a strange idea of what will make them happy. He could end up being training fodder.

If the reports are correct then it’s pragmatically a win for all parties. We’ve got a decent return on a player who had no further interest in appearing for us. Arsenal have themselves a very decent squad addition and Trossard himself has a nice pay rise, a potential PL winner’s medal and possible CL football to boot.

Probably as good an outcome as could be expected under a fairly grim initial set up.

As an aside, we may have to get used to incoming foreign players, whether they voice it or not, thinking that we are just a stepping stone to a top 4 PL career, and/or Champions League football. After all, that is our modus operandi, providing a proven pathway for European, Irish, African, South American and Japanese players into the PL.

The challenge now is for us to continue to deliver on that promise (and therefore maintaining the pipeline), but at the same time keeping them for as long as possible to get their best years out of them, but also keeping the costs under control, while still competing against some of the richest clubs in the world. Oh, also while running a Premier League football club. Not an easy juggling act.

But so far, it has gone extraordinarily well. This suggests that the coming years will also be extraordinarily good.

Time difference.
How much was it worth in the end ?
So you posted your comment 8 hours ago or something?

I've only read this thread. Seems like £27m inc addons. Whatever the figure is, it's already been agreed, so won't be affected by what's in the papers now.

Yep. Plus we have an upgrade in place.

Ok, I've had a drink. Why would the time difference in Australia make any difference? I'm confused.

I'm asking the wrong person aren't I?
