I know this is tongue in cheek but I really think CH was the one holding back on blooding new players.
His mantra of requiring a youth team player to train 40 times before they get a sniff of even being on the bench probably also applied to newbies.
I await with keen interest the stats on new players playing and people coming back from injury under GP v CH.

This isn't true. Nearly all of Albion's signings (bar goalkeepers) since getting promoted have made appearances within days or weeks of being signed or being signed/being fit.
Ryan, Propper, Gross, Izquierdo, Suttner, Locadia, Bernardo, Bissouma, Andone, Al J all did - with most having long runs in the 18 or the 11.
Burn and Balogun took longer kept out by Dunk/Duffy and Schelotto likewise. And Button/Krul/Steele did for obvious reasons.

Who didn't ?

Why should a player who’s been playing quite happily elsewhere need to wait WEEKS before they play?!

Sign Friday, play Saturday in my book. Not WEEKS. Jeez.

It's funny how players needing to be trusted by the manager was seen as a positive, not so long ago.
It certainly never raised the eyebrows it does now

Never understand the Knockhaert haters, without him last season we would of been relegated. Wonderful assist against Huddersfield and of course the Palace stunner basically kept us up.

At least I had the respect to spell his name correctly. I'm not sure you're going to find many Knockaert "haters", I'm certainly not. Goal of the season, etc. But in my opinion, I want the team to improve season on season and looking at last season, I think he is someone we could improve upon. The arguments have been fleshed out a lot, both for and against. I wouldn't be surprised to see him sold but obviously wouldn't be unhappy if he stayed. He could thrive in a more attacking set up, like we had in the Championship.

But no more productive. He's good for a goal and a handful of assists per season, which is patently not good enough for anything other than a relegation threatened team. If you want to be something other than that, you have to have a better standard. If Trossard is the man, then bring him on.

Personally, I would sell Knockaert to the highest bidder and start next season with Izquierdo to come back in, but three wingers in March, Jahanbakhsh and a left wing specialist. When everyone is fit, 4 wingers and 2 whose preference is the same flank. And don't play them as advanced full backs - all is well with the world.

I don't disagree that we should be aiming higher long term. Although I do think there's more room for improvement from him whereas I'm not sure that's the case for our other wingers; in fact I think he's our best current winger and he'd be a starting name in our team for next year if I had a say in it, which I clearly don't. I also think there are a lot of tactical implications in play that make our wingers substantially less productive, one of which you mentioned at the end of your post. But you're right, unless he shows much more productivity over the next season or so (and unless all of our wingers do, quite frankly), then it's an area we should be looking to upgrade.

Look very promising. Goalscoring wingers are worth their weight in gold.

He isn't one of our best players, not for me. Him and March are both players I'd look to replace. I'm happy with Murray, Andone and Locadia as strikers so I don't think we need to be spending too much money there, but if we can snap up a couple of wingers then by all means.

I'd be more than happy to see him stick around and play under a more attacking manager, he could be a revelation. But he's had two years to impress and has only done so in a handful of games in my opinion. We've probably had more stupid moments and strops than we've had genuinely good performances since we got promoted. We know he has issues, but I think it's only reasonable to keep defending him for so long.

Wow. We're of a vastly different opinion. I'd be happy if Andone and Locadia never play for us again, and I'd be surprised if they play 20 full games between them this year. Unless Potter is a genus.
Wasn't Duffy your 4th choice centre back or have I misremembered?

You've not read any of my posts about Hughton's sacking then :)

Gotta be honest CJ, I am shocked, yes, shocked, by your anti-club stance on Chris's (IMHO) justifiable axing... what gives? Have you fallen out of love with our CEO!?

Although I disagree on the odd point (Andone, especially), I agree with you so much more than the post you're responding to.

We are probably in the minority I agree about March his end product is frustrating as hell. Maybe GP can solve that who knows.
