Bit like Maupay - looked pissed off for weeks and didn’t Boussuma practically stop making an effort in the weeks leading up to his departure?
Tross loves scoring goals but doesn’t have the quality or physique to be top 6 PL no9 striker. I think he has much more goal scoring potential than he’s finding at Brighton at the moment in the position he’s playing in but I can’t see that changing any time soon so I wonder if a European team might suit him better in terms of giving him more goal scoring opportunities - maybe Ajax or PSG?

He'd want a move to a top 5 league where he could have it all : bigger paycheque, starting XI, better stats, chance at Europe. At PSG, he'd be an impact sub at most, a starter only if injuries hit the club. I suspect he'll end up in Germany or Italy.

Consistency is always going to be his issue. On his day superb but equally can go missing and look a bit disinterested. Very difficult to read as with those dark under eyes he always has the look of a smacked arse!

Yes he would and yes he does but top 6 clubs already have deep squads - Tross would not be happy at the age of 28 sitting on the bench while his years of top condition in professional football is on the wrong side of peaked - the older footballers get, the more risk of injury too. It would be whether having a few ‘clinical minutes’ is enough to get him 90 from week to week in a top 6 club and whether he can compete with talented 21 year olds for a first eleven place.

Should add because of that- can’t see Tross straining at the leash to leave.

Personally hope he stays and that he would not be happy as a bench sitter. I did have a spell of being ambivalent and frustrated with him but he’s our Danger Mouse, more likely than anyone in the team to pop out of nowhere for a goal.

Unbelievable on his day but that is usually followed by 4-5 games where you forget he's even on the pitch. If he's not going to sign a new contract I think we'd do well to get anything above £20m for him. I suspect he will get better wages elsewhere but not at a club that is higher placed than we are currently.

Whilst I applaud your attitude of 'let's agree to disagree' (as too many people are quick to just get nasty if someone disagree's with them), what you're essentially saying is I'm too thick/don't understand football well enough to appreciate Trossard and his ability?

I would of course disagree as I see his many talents however I also see when he goes completely absent in games (see Boxing Day performance) and when he can't convert basic chances when given time to think. In my opinion he has the natural ability to be a top six player but has a much lower standard footballing brain which is crucial for a player at the top level. His decision making and vision as nowhere near the likes of Ali Mac for example.

At the moment he is our match winner. Mitoma also clearly has the potential to be. But the reality is, despite a squad of class, he is the difference when he is on song. He'll be a big loss but he's bound to leave either soon or at the end of his contract. As with any Albion player I'll only wish him the best of luck when that happens. Another player we've been absolutely privileged to see in the stripes.

He has always been a creative skilful player and not everything he tries comes off, but I do think too many of our supporters under rate his contribution.

He may well move on and I agree with you that he is not guaranteed success elsewhere, but he will leave a huge hole in our squad, if he does go. I would be more than happy to see him decide to stay and sign a new contract. His contribution to our success has been very significant and our current run of signing gems, will not last forever.

Whether you rate him highly or not (I do), as soon as we get a wiff a player wants out I think most want it sorted ASAP so we can get a replacement in and move on. I think it's clear he won't sign a new contract making a summer move inevitable.

Of course I hope something changes and he signs a new deal and stays. I think that is only likely if there is not enough high level interest for him, making us the best career choice, which is unfortunately, unlikely.

Players have signed new contracts before when we've not expected it, so nothing is definite here....

Having said that, if it has to be done, then let's at least make sure it's not for a knockdown price and preferably not to a direct competitor. We could even go completely crazy and sign a replacement, maybe even one who's old enough to have started shaving and wouldn't need years out on loan to be somewhere near ready to go

Brighton have informed Leandro Trossard they are taking up the extra year’s option in his contract to fend off January interest from Chelsea and Newcastle.
The clause ties down Belgium star Trossard, 28 last month, until the summer of 2024.

The Seagulls are hoping to convince Trossard to sign a new long-term deal to avoid being forced to cash in at the end of the season.

Brighton’s former transfer guru Dan Ashworth, now director of football at Newcastle, is keeping a close eye on the situation.


Chelsea boss Graham Potter is also a big admirer of Trossard, who has scored 25 goals in 116 Premier League games.

Im just not sure which club ticks all the boxes for this transfer to happen. From the players point of view he'd want it to be to a top club where he has a chance of winning something, and he'd want to be in the starting 11. But for most top clubs Trossard is probably a bench or squad rotation player, and who is going to pay the £35/40m we'd want for a 28 year old player that will inevitably spend a lot of time on the bench. Maybe the club that most fits is Newcastle, but even they already have Almiron, Isak, Saint Maximin, Guimaras, Wilson, Willock, and Wood as attacking options and if they're to sign someone new they might fancy someone younger than Trossard. Chelsea have also been mentioned but they seem to have set their sights on bigger targets.

So if in January we'd want £35/40m for him then i'd think there's minimal serious interest at that price, except maybe from Newcastle, but if that doesnt materialise then either he signs a new contract with us, or the situation is revisited in the summer and there might be more interest at nearer £20m because he's going the final year of his contract.
