I really don’t want to be the song police but there is some right old shite out on the road, notably “Wilfred Zaha dies” (in at number 1) “Xxxxxxx’s a shithole” “football in a library” and “we pay your benefits” Like I said I’m not the song police so hearing it doesn’t particularly ruin my day. This is just my opinion.

Derogatory songs from back in the day seemed to have more humour. I recall the north stand singing “…there will be a kicking….when the gates open” to the tune of When The Boat Comes In when we played Newcastle in 79. It was quite topical and clearly an idle threat.
‘In Your Liverpool Slums’ was another back in the 70s as it was a play on the old tune ‘In My Liverpool Home’ but as soon as it got changed to Preston/Luton/Palace etc it lost all meaning.

Don’t get me started on “Cheer up Nigel Adkins”

In the early 80s Hyde Drive (Ifield) was literally just Londoners, they used to walk round town like their shit didn’t stink with their flash trainers and Tachini tracksuits which meant all the local girls fancied them while we skulked around dressed like Rodney Trotter from series one.
Fed up with this we marched over to Ifield to give them a good hiding. What a surprise, we got ran all over the place! We learned to live in relative harmony after that and the local lads started washing their hair and wearing some decent clobber.

I didn’t realise that you lived In Crawley when you were that young, I know you lived in Moulscoomb, but I thought you lived there early teens, especially when you have mentioned Beaver’s Cafe and some of the lads from Coombe Rd area.

Crawley would have been little more than a selection of villages then. It was mainly farm land to serve London.
Two things changed all that - WW2 and LGW.
Crawley became a new town to rehouse Londoners, it’s the main reason there are lots of Chelsea, Arsenal, Spurs etc families in Crawley. Croydon wouldn’t have been affected as much and was itself just a town.
The expansion of LGW in the 60s meant lots of work and immigration.
My dad’s family were all rehoused from Battersea to Crawley in the 50s, they’re all Chelsea, my generation are all Albion (thank god!)
I think the palace line is drawn at Horley.

This is correct.
When Crawley was designated a new town the vast majority of new residents were from the borough of Wandsworth and 90% did and still do support Chelsea, Crawley has never, ever been a Palace town.
I won't be able to see them at Wembley but I hope they win and I hope that few thousand of the new fans they attract for the final carry on following them next season whatever division they are in.

I’ve been to a few Crawley games this year, I’m in two minds as to whether to go to the Brighton match or the Wembley match. I’d prefer the Brighton match, son would prefer Wembley with his friends.

We did go to the semi finals last season so we have done Wembley.

Gonna stick with the Amex I think.

lol they do. I actually thought their various different ways of doing things last season was interesting but Crawley's fans are a very conservative bunch (maybe like most fan bases tbf) and they just wanted a faceless owner up in the sky running the club with no new ways of fan engagement or consultation. So the crypto guys gave them that this season.

Some would argue that the much better performance on the pitch this season proves the fact that old-fashioned distant faceless ownership is much better than trying something different. But I tend to think that's a "sun rises because the cock crows" level of causality.
