I don't even know why the league cup exists any more. With a lot of managers bleating about playing so many games, this should be the first thing to go IMO. Really, what purpose does it serve?

if you are a fan of a premier league side, you could say the same about League1:eek:

The first team need a winning mentality. We didn't play our first team. We'll get our winning mentality in the league!

I know we didn't play our first team but funnily enough, as a result of that game we are now without 2 first team players! You don't switch a winning mentality off. When we won promotion from the 4th tier under Adams I think every one of our teams won their respective leagues. Also, winning games will encourage more and more people back to Withdean and then hopefully Falmer.

I'm not saying it's the end of the world that we are out but I bet none of the players wanted to lose or are happy with being out of the cup but it does seem that some supporters are!

I just think this whole winning mentality thing is a bit OTT. Lets beat Rochdale and Walsall and then we'll have a winning mentality!

It would have been nice to through, but it would still have been a second string side playing in the next round. I think when Gus and Tony sat down before the season to discuss the aims Tony said we want promotion. Bugger the cups. We want to get up for Falmer. We've got years of football ahead of us to enjoy cup runs. Right now though, it's all about the league.

I think it's pretty clear what purpose the whole league structure serves. But seriously, we have a fantastic cup competition called the FA Cup, why have another one?

Unless one was to scrap the JPT (more pointless fixtures) and make the League Cup a competition for the 72 clubs in the Football League, I really can't see the point of it.

We're very lucky that Tony Bloom is bankrolling the club and we don't have to worry about breaking even or making a profit to buy new players etc.

An away trip to one of the decent Premier League teams would have been worth a few quid even if we were playing their youngsters or reserves. But it doesn't look as though we have to worry about such things.
