If we could guarantee a big atmosphere by dropping prices and packing the stadium every game it would probably make Withdean a fortress and therefore charge us up through the leagues which would keep the interest up.

However if everyone sits there moaning about the lack of a roof the burgers and talking about how they would help the Albion IF they won the lottery that evening it would achieve F*ck all.

So my suggestion is if you can afford to go thenmake it worth it and stretch those tonsils.

£413 - 23 league games = £17.96 a game. I would have to pay £5 for a train ticket so really I am getting my game for £12.96.

A proportion of the ticket price includes bus/train travel/park and ride costs. This was done as a requirement for playing at Withdean. So as not to upset the residents , with thousands of cars jamming up the roads on matchdays , a transport strategy had to be implemented and this will probably be similar in structure to when we play at Famer. At Elland Road 2 seasons ago , we had to pay a bus fare to the ground and afterwards to go back to the city centre (no childrens fares available as well) , whereas all the Leeds fans used their ticket stubs (Albion fans had a felt tip cross on the stub which meant it was invalid for the bus even though we paid the same for a ticket as the Leeds fans.

There won't be a 'pay on the gate' at Falmar; I believe this is specified in the approval letter.

It is a smart card system. My understanding is that it will be the same as Bozza's original post - costs extra on the same day.

The computer says NO . The price will be either the same or a bit extra (booking fee) , otherwise everybody will be doing the same thing and booking on the day to get a discount on the travel costs with the club not knowing how many fans to expect. The STH would go absolutely apeshit as they have paid in advance.

Surely the club only pays the bus and train companies if they prove their buses and trains have been used. If you walk to the ground, then surely the club gets all the money, if the bus driver takes your stub, the bus company gets it, etc !

I don't think it would make a big difference to the gate if the price dropped
by a fiver. People are just pissed of with the Withdean experience.
They will all be lining up to get the first tickets for Falmer, it always been the same with Albion fans. Even when we settle in at Falmer and we have a bad run you'll see some gates around the 5-8K mark.
I remember well when Bremner and Nelson made their debuts against York City on the first day of the season in 1988 and we only a very small attendance that day which was around the 5K mark. By the end of the season there was 18k packed in the Goldstone.

The exceptions are the top seven or so clubs which are trying to compete with Chelsea.

As Superphil points out, the club only has to pay for the stubs that are used. As that's the case, perhaps the club could offer a refund scheme for B&H residents: if you haven't used your voucher, you could send it to the club and get £2 back. To save admin costs, this could be offered at the mid-point and end of season.

Just a question. Bearing in mind Saturday's gate. When Falmer is built, will we be able to attract attendances four or five fold the current numbers.

Probably not, but attendances should double or maybe even treble.

It is not just the number of people using buses and trains that have to be paid for. There are stewards, road closures and adverts, park and ride buses - hired no matter how many people use them - hire fees to Brighton University for Mithras House, council monitoring etc etc. All of these things go to make up the travel scheme. I accept that people who walk do not get full value but for everyone else there is a good scheme provided they will get out of their cars and use it.

That's why there is a transport strategy in place. That's why we pay for a travel element in the ticket, which we have done since 1999 and now loads of clubs have copied.

And can some of you actually read the stuff the club send you with your tickets, such as the "Way to Withdean" leaflet!

That's right, we should be encouraging sustainable transport. But, as Colbourne Kid points out, we subsidising car drivers which seems a screwy way of doing things. There does seem to be more an acceptance that travelling by car isn't always acceptable so I can't see why the drivers just don't pay for the park and ride, say a fiver.

That way people who use cars would pay for the privilege, people who use public transport can use the vouchers and people who use neither like Brovian and me can get some money back.

Similar to me. But £27 to see the occasional game is very steep when you don't take advantage of the travel.
So as an STH I'm all for lots of deals for the less attractive fixtures and to encourage the kids to come.
