LDC Tory Group Back Falmer Stadium and Oppose an Appeal

It certainly means that there won't be a unanimous decision of the LDC Cabinet Committee to back an appeal. Councillor Tony Nicholson and his two Conservative colleagues are now publicly committed to vote against such action.

Does this also mean that they won't be able to take a behind closed doors decision, and then threaten any LibDem councillor who tries to object? I'm assuming that even if the Cabinet meets in private, the Conservatives on the committee will ensure that the decision-making process is made as publicly as possible.

Norman Baker has accepted the decision, if a little gracelessly, his comments about

"the deliberate depiction of those people opposed to the stadium on planning grounds as evil, football-hating people was unfortunate and unfair."

Given that he represents a party that doctored the photographs of the Falmer site, and depicted the residents of Moulscoomb as being illiterate morons who were not even capable of flipping burgers for a living, it does seem a little less than even handed to carp at anyone who fights back.

I don't recall Ruth O'Keeffe making any public statement about the stadium. She has, however, been quite helpful towards those of us who tried to get LDC to be more open about how they made decisions.

And she worked very closely with the Seagulls Party (and others) during the election to expose Lib Dem dirty tricks.

Unlike some "independent" councillors, Ruth is a genuine independent voice on LDC and much admired for it.

I can't see famer fighting this on their own. After all, if you take how many live in falmer and then subtract the number that either would want, or are not opposed to, the stadium then that's not many at all.

If you then take away all those who have moved into Falmer as wel then there's very few genuine Falmer people that I feel sorry for. I wouldn't mind betting that a fair number of dwellings are 'buy to let' anmd occupied by Uni people.

Is this the same tory party that did f*** all to stop LDC proceeding with their delaying tactics? I'm sure I recall tory councillors siding with the LibDumbs earlier in the farce....The same tory party whose councillors campaigned against The Albion's temporary stay at Withdean?

I welcome their comments but why has it taken them so long? Talk about jumping on the bandwagon.

would bet a dollar to a bunch of coon's crap, that regardless of their decision re an appeal, the LDC will wait until the very last minute to publicise their plans.
