brand to go for is panasonic or samsung, place is online such as amazon.

sony is overrated, samsung make thactual screens for them anyway. panasonic with 100hz refresh (LXD models) are better quality picture than most others. dont get one too big for your room or the picture will look shit and blocky (a reason i didnt buy one for years, looking to close to store demonstration models)

www.froogle.co.uk is your friend

and a cheap LCD TV will look rubbish
Foogle only use companies that are prepared to pay for their slot, so won't be the cheapest.

Avoid LG if your budget will stretch to it and as someone already mentioned Panasonic LXD range is basically the best LCD you can currently get, especailly as I am presuming you are wanting to watch footer on it? - even some new tv's out there still have problems with motion blur - the 100hz Pannys cope with this very well!

Even if you are still tempted by another brand like the very pretty Samsungs, unless you are into gaming don't bother with a 1080p set - Sky HD / Virgin HD is only broadcast in 1080i/720p and will be for quite some time - most games are still produced at this res too.

http://www.soundandvisiononline.com/ - have some good prices and their credit options are quite good too.

Plasma in my opinion is way better, better contrast, brightness and better for the footer.

Not to mention the fortune they save you on heating bills

an all round winner !!!

Plasma picture quality is excellent. However, sorry plasma lovers, but the reason why they're now so cheap compapred to LCD's is because of screen burn.

Basically avoid plasma's like the plague if you have sky, virgin or digital TV or you intend to use your console or PC on it as after 3 months, you'll either have an outline of the EPG banner, the red button in the top right corner or the Windows task bar and you won't be able to get rid of it.

LCD's breakdown less, eat up ALOT less electricity and they do not weigh as much and the Liquid Crystal Display is only ever temporarily affected by screen burn.

I have Phillips 32" and am thinking of going upto 42" but I wouldn't go above that as the technology is not yet advance enough to get rid of pixel blur on LCD's - which IS where Plasma has the edge. LG LCD's are also pretty good for the price.

Basically, if you are looking for a long term package go for a Panasonic or Sony Bravia LCD. If however you think you're going to be changing TV's again in a couple of years go for Plasma as they're now cheaper.

Happy shopping!
