Trying to compare chalk and cheese is not a fair comparison.
Having said that - Lawrenson is the best footballer we ever had at our club. For those unfortunate enough not to have seen him play, he was quite brilliant.

Yes...he was different class. Walked straight into the Liverpool side, forming the best CB partnership in Europe, in probably the best side in Europe at the time. Here, he was Mr.Utility, roaming all over the pitch. At Liverpool, he and Hansen were like a pair of Rolls Royces, just purring around at the back.
In 55 years of watching, he is definitely the best player I have seen in our shirt. The most exciting was Wardy. The hardest was a toss up between Jimmy Case and Alex Dawson. The fastest was Dave Armstrong. The most dependable..... Lewis Dunk.... and the worst.......well a few candidates spring to mind. The most surprising conversion..John Crumplin and the all time ' nutter ' award goes to Hans Kraay. Best penalty taker..David Lopez/Tomor Hemed....best corner taker..Kit Napier...best free kick taker...Dean Wilkins and the two players who oozed class out of every pore and left me wishing we had seen them earlier in their careers were Frank Worthington and Vicente.

Good post and a pretty sound analysis.

Brilliant post.
Dave Armstrong was selected for the Mexico Olympic relay squad if I remember right but for what ever reason did not go.

Spot on. Not just every side in the league though, every side in Europe. As I said on another thread about him recently, incredibly he is still under rated by a number of Brighton fans.

People going on about his shooting and creating are totally missing the point.

If he goes in the summer I hope its to Manchester City. Pep will make him the best defensive midfielder in the world

thought we got case as part of that deal and Liverpool rated him at 400k?

Yeah. Sorry perhaps not clear earlier. Lawrenson valued at £900k with Case valued £450k I believe. So it was a £900k deal with us getting £450 cash + Case. That's as I understand it. Was very sorry we lost Lawrenson, but it was inevitable, and in the end, we did all right out of the deal.

I wonder if history might repeat itself with Bissouma and a player + cash deal. I wouldn't be surprised in these cash strapped times.

"Sheffield United's 23-year-old Norwegian midfielder Sander Berge, who has been linked with Arsenal, Aston Villa and Everton, could leaves Bramall Lane for £35m because of a relegation clause in his contract. (Yorkshire Live)"

Is he better than Bissouma ?
