It's only the money. People in the Game seem to know. Take Leon's Dad, he said to Leon, " If Brighton want you I'll run you down." Anyway in the period before the start of the season four or five players will appear, that nobody has heard of. Four will be a success two of which will become Legends. Nailed on.

It is weird that if you are a certain type of club that you have trouble attracting some players.
Unfashionable in the Championship so struggled to attract players, unheard of in the Premier League so struggle to attract players.
Maybe we should be targeting players from Championship levels throughout the UK and Europe who have the potential to step up.
Would be cheaper as well.

How do you know we are having problems attracting players ? We have signed one already, Gross, and the window isn't even open yet. Bit early to panic.

Entirely circumspect but would imagine Gross will be the only signing ahead of expiry of contract and all others will be bonafide purchases from clubs.

Players out of contract prefer certainty I'm sure and would therefore know well ahead of contract expiry if other better offers are an option - a la Stockdale - and normally notify their club of their intention to go when it ends - not a la Stockdale.

I expect we're engaged on all fronts trying to get things over the line. Typically this period equals player holidays so unlikely to get much confirmed before end June, but expect busy period immediately after.

He doesn't and very probably we aren't.

Michy Batshuayi is a much better player than Tammy, closer to the finished product and has far better experience under his belt. Not to mention plenty of goals in different leagues and international experience among some of the best players in the world.

Edit - I'd love to SING Tammy btw, but anyone who thinks he'd be a better signing is just wrong.

I agree with a a lot of what you've said. However, I think Abraham will be more suited to the way we play. Potentially with one up top. This is why I'd rather take him. Plus Batshuayi is on 100k plus a week at Chelsea. It's Abraham for me, both footballing and monetary reasons.

This.

Perhaps at some point in the future Tammy will be the better prospect, but not right now.

Brighton won't stuggle to attract players.

They have a likeable former International, well known Manager in place. Good Location to live geographically and easy driving distance to London as well.

Of course you won't attract the real ''top notch'' players but that is just finance based and only about 7 or 8 clubs can attract those ones. You won't see much transfer action from many clubs at the moment until all the people who need to be involved in the personal negotiations on both sides of the table are back from their holidays

It's the 5th of June! Don't think we have any problems attracting the players we realistically want. We are not going to spunk triple the wages they deserve on them this early just for the sake of it and will just pass on those types, securing the Brighton and Houghton types we want as and when.

Burnley had a £10 million bid for Snodgrass accepted in Jan but he chose West Ham.

Looks like we had a lucky escape as he is 30 and has gone downhill since leaving Hull.

He has had niggling injury problems since he moved to the Hammers to be fair. I can see him as being someone that Sean Dyche would really like, tenacious, works hard, never stops running, and is good at delivering set pieces.

Why are people getting hung up on wages of c£100k a week? Yes it's a whole shittonne of money but one we could technically afford for the following reasons:

1) if a perm Prem signing then total wages plus transfer fee are divided by the number of years on the contract and amortised across the life of the deal so = AFFORDABLE

2) if a loan then taken in one chunk across that season's budget but STILL affordable.

The problem clubs get into is when they MASSIVELY over spend by a factor of >10-15 such contracts over multiple years.

I expect us to have a blend of the above and would expect us having a go this season would see the AVERAGE wage to be around the £40k a week mark. (25 players @ £40k per week = £52m out of £100m inflow from TV deal not taking into consideration any uplift in ticket, merch and sponsorship which may contribute something in the region of c £30-40m EXTRA.

Sure there's squad harmony to take into consideration but think you'll find the differential between top versus median earner will be quite similar now - squad player c8-10k and top earner 20-25k (in Championship terms...)

Not hung up on it. I just can't see us spending 100k a week on a loan player. I agree regarding the purchase example of fee plus wages, but then you own the player and would look for a return fee on sale. If we can stay up for a few seasons I can see us spending that sort of money. Just not now. I may well be proved wrong.

I think Snodgrass would be a very good signing. However the rate we are going we will have a 50 man squad ! Some of the present squad will have to be told ,that they have not made the cut !!!!

Our squad is currently only 24 strong and that includes Walton, Towell, LuaLua, Ince, Elvis and Hunt !

He's off to Newcastle now.

I hope that's true as it seems a bit like Norwich's approach - and that went well for all. Hopefully we can find several more we can get linked to us. That way we can spend all their cash for them and then bring in the ones we really want.
