Latest Plans for a Mobile Mast.

Yes I know not a football topic.

Leaflets have been dropped through the door re. a mast being placed at the junction of Queens Park Road and Pankhurst Avenue, by T Mobile/Marconi.

Now I cannot for the life of me see the point of T Mobile having a mast there. I have a pay as you go set of theirs which has marvellous reception, althogh I live in a basemant.

The council are having a meetiing at the Town Hall on Thurs 10 March. A demonstartion will be held outside ot 3.45 pm prior to the meeting.

I have thout of two issues. One I hope this does not interfere with our own planning issues at present. Whilst, two, I for one cannot see why a mast is needed when the reception is as clear as it is.

I will be aganist the mast being installed. I just wanted to post this as I wished to let my feelings known, and others here may wish to know what is being planned.

You probably don't like Falmerites and Withdeaners objecting to us having a stadium but you object to a harmless mobile phone mast for no apparent reason.

The whole country is just a bunch NIMBYs with no VISION.

The mast is possibly for new UMTS services.
Modern suburban masts have little more impact than a tall streetlight so what's your problem?

I have always thought that junior, when the TV News goes out to a planned phone mast site I have always wanted the interviewer to ask if people there have mobile phones, and if so where they think the masts should be situated.

People complained when pylons were being erected to take electricity around the countryside.

People said that pylons, meters and sub stations were causing cancer.
When I worked for the industry I helped take part in an experiment.
I wore a measuring data collector on my waist band for a month only removing it at night and the shower.
I sat in front of a VDU at work and had to record where the meter was kept in the house.
I also had to record if there was a sub station near within 100 yds of our house (which there was) or any pylons nearby.

Hundreds of electricity supply workers took part in the experiment and it was proven that electro magnetic waves did not cause outbreaks of cancer.

I think that over 1 billion people in the world using mobile phones everyday with no evidence of any significant effect is proof of that.

This was the point I was making about electricity. People made exactly the same fuss about that.
Nobody has proved that mobile phones and masts are harmful.
It is thought that they might be. That is no the same as saying they are.

Could be one of those things that only over time will they be able tosee if it directly linked to cancer. Basically we have only really been using mobiles for 10-15 years. Just hope that unlike the cigarette companies, that mobile providers have not got evidence to say that it does harm people and they have been witholding the information !

The reason for themast could be a number of reasons - it could be that the existing one the lease term is up and they are not renewing, it could be a juiced up one to cope with 3G all sorts of reasons.

I know a few companies that Orange uses has jumped on the bandwagon and said it no longer wants masts on their buildings due to the links with cancer (or more accurately they don't want negative publicity).

Excuse me, there AREN'T any links with cancer other than in the minds of NIMBYs.



Question - should the government ban beaches to stop people sunbathing? Now there DEFINITELY is a link to cancer yet come summertime the beaches are packed.

How many NIMBY phone mast objectors will be sunbathing in the summer?

And remember that nice big glowing object up in the sky that gives us all a nice sun tan and keeps the world alive is also bombarding us constantly with just about every radio frequency imaginable, and a fair bit of radiation. Shall we get rid of that as well?

People who campaign against radio masts should do their homework first before coming out with all this cancer causing nonsense. Ban smoking first then worry about mobile phones!

Some of those dishes are fastened to outside walls right next to bedrooms.

Care to prove there is any risk? To be fair there probably is some, but the main risk with mobiles is the the little microwave generator in your pocket, not the masts. And in theory at least, the more masts the closer you are to one, so the less powerful signal your phone needs to pump out.

Yes, but you did have to have an operation to remove that third leg you started growing.

It looks quite splendid now though. I eventually had your erroneous deformed amputated third leg stuffed and mounted over my fireplace. Its quite the talking point whenever I have guests round. And sometimes I slip a STOCKING over it.

I think the argument should be not what it does or doesn't do but what it looks like.

If it is just a chunk of metal sticking out the ground like a amputated tripod leg then I can understand the objections. But if it is made to blend into the scenery then I have no real problem with that.

I quite like the one near Crawley on the A23 shaped like a tree.

There are some mysterious masts cropping up in fields on the outskirts of Haywards Heath. At first glance they look like tall thin tree's, but closer examination reveals them to be mobile phone masts with synthetic branches attached.

They're quite beautiful actually. Much better than the real tree's, which look rather shabby by comparison.
