If someone's out of contract you could sign them at any point surely?

They have to be a free agent before the transfer window closes to be able to sign them at any time.

Think if an overseas player is out of contract on deadline day they can sign for a FL club but if they were in contract at that date they cannot sign even if their current club cancels their contract. However I believe that if Fiorentina (who were reportedly looking at him) wanted to sign him and his contract was cancelled it would be ok under Italian league rules. That aside this rumour only exists on here...............
