We don't know the details but as the MOD have said he should be considered, it seems they were in enemy territory.
How much of a presence does there have to be? Under fire, or within a mile or so?

I'd always been of the understanding that you had to be under fire, rather it being a case of "oh, there are some rather unfriendly chaps over that way somewhere". It's merely a point of fact anyway, as the VC and GC are of equal standing.

Pretty sure tha a Guy in the Irish guards during WWI did something similar and get the VC, obviously he didn't survive. They were priming grenades at the time, sonmeone dropped one, it started fizzing and so this chap dived on it. From memory they weren't underfire. A selfless act and one in whichh there was only one outcome:bowdown:

Nice one Royal:thumbsup:

A bootneck did a similar thing for me many years ago in the backstreets of Lisbon. This right hopper took a shine to me, but good old Royal stepped in & took the punishment. He was a brave lad as I'm sure the "lady" had a little surprise down below!
