I think Lamptey will be eased back in, due to the type of player he is - ie not just starting and playing 90 mins consistently at first.

However, I'd be quite happy with Veltman to CB in Burn's place until Webster comes back, with Karbownik as the LWB perhaps?

Thread closed.......(or should be, plenty of others discussing this anyway :))

Nice!! Would love to see Lamptey as an inverted LWB! Potter would obvs trial him in this position/role in training before UNLEASHING him. Definitely opposition dependent but given his pace and workrate it's surely worth a go?

Great idea, bring it on!

Now, do I email Barber?

The problem with playing Lamptey further forward than RWB would be that you restrict the space he can run into, thereby lessening his impact. I'd go with Lamptey at RWB, Veltman, White and Dunk as the back three (whilst Webster is out) and play Burn as LWB. Ok, Burn is restricted as a Wing Back but I think we'd benefit from his height at defending set pieces.
When Webster is back I can see Veltman and Lamptey being rotated to protect Lamptey from injury as the wing back position is very demanding physically. I think this could have been a contributing factor towards Solly's injury as he'd had little rest.

As an aside, I can see Moder getting more minutes as the season concludes, just to ensure we keep our key midfielders fresh.

Absolutely this.

I know Veltman has done very well at RWB but his natural position is CB, and Lamptey's RWB. Surely it is a no brainer.

Agreed. But we'd then have threads like this as Webster returned. Over the season JV has been our most reliable CB as well as RB

Falmer, soon...
I think there's a good chance we will see Lamptey on the left. As other's have mentioned, he's best served by running from deep as part of a quick counter-attack. I can just imagine him cutting inside to run at defenders and scaring the crap out of them.

a galaxy far far away
-------Veltman Dunk White
Lamptey Bissouma Gross Burn

Is the most likely way they both get fit in.

When Webby is fit, one will have to miss out. It will be either, Veltman, White or Gross. My money is on White

Wasn't Lamptey meant to have been in the squad for West Brom but he wasnt ?

So like most Albion injuries he will probably be rested until season 2021/22

I’m fairly sure I saw veltman make several passes with his left foot so he could move across? We are woefully short of lefties throughout the squad
I think he is quite comfortable with his left foot as you say, and his experience would help him not to be phased by switching sides.

I played RB or RWB most of my football days, I was less effective going forward on the left, but was just as effective stopping the fecker's come by me!

Definitely think this is a good possibility when lamptey is fully fit.

These aren't the players you're looking for.

Lots of noise re Arsenal and Everton being interested for £30m.

Would be great business for the club if true, but I would be gutted to have him leave and never see him playing for us in the flesh.

If Lamptey was available for sale then I’m sure you’d have more than Arsenal & Everton interested. & considering Chelsea have a sell on percentage £30m seems the absolute minimum we’d want, probably higher.

And tweeting as if they would get him if they wanted him (like Leeds and White). Totally deluded.

[QUOTEw=sydney;9766096]the wee rocket started out as a striker.... obviously too small but given our wtf attitude stick him up front with tau , biss , tross and the dalai llama fizzing balls along the ground ...let him and Connelly tear the opposition a portal to the adjoining galaxy.[/QUOTE]
