I need to buy a bottle of wine for tomorrow night but haven't got a clue what to get. Any good red or white wines that cost under a tenner? If I can't decide it'll have to be Bacardi Breezers.:lol:

Anyone care to guess the contents of MoH's drinks cabinet ?

Cypress Sherry, Greek Brandy, Buckfast tonic wine & some kind of chocolate liqueur would be my random guesses, although if I trawled through his posts for travel references I could probably be more accurate.

go to sainsbury's and buy a £10 bottle at half price. simples.

New Zealand Sauvignon blanc on offer at the mo is pretty nice in my opinion.

Tescos Finest Gavi is excellent and usually between £6.99 and £8 a bottle...thats the white sorted especially if you've got girls who always ask for a dry white...

I prefer white wine and so does she but i'm no connoisseur. Depends what she's cooking, it'll be brilliant whatever it is.:love:

That sounds good. Dinner being cooked for me so it's the least I can do. Thanks, mistahclarke.:thumbsup:

that's alright mate. My missus bought 12 bottles tonight as it's a good deal and likes it. And if she knows her wine makes you look like you've splashed out mon a decent bottle which is a Brucie bonus. New Zealand is a bit sweeter.

at the psued's end of the market, this guy writes a really interesting wine blog

http://www.wineanorak.com

and below he is recommending a Lambrusco that pretty much reflects the original view stated. He is also one of a number of wine writers, who are very sniffy about the supermarket half price wine offers, arguing that many of them were never worth the full price in the first place.

jamie goode's wine blog: A 90+ point Lambrusco - incredible!

So, can you get it here? I've hardly seen it, apart from the vile blended autofreeze nonsense Tescos has on offer at £2.50 a bottle. Waitrose has nothing, Tesco nothing decent.

i wonder, have you tried what you've seen in Tesco's or assumed it will be crap from the price?

That's a fair point beorhthelm. But if you'd seen the stuff, believe me you'd have no problem telling the difference between the stuff that's given it such a bad name and the real deal: the Tescos one was packaged to appeal to 14 year olds who sneer at drinking Diamond White mixed with Cinzano. The bottle of real Lambrusco in Italy had a picture of a ruddy CASTLE on the label.

I can't deny a bit of a penchant for a sticky and no-one would appreciate a "guilty drinking pleasures" thread more than me (actually there's an idea). But my point is that real Lambrusco ideally wouldn't belong there.

fair enough, though for £2.50 it must surely be worth trying it? if its as bad as feared you could always use it to clean windows, polish the silver etc.

I see a pattern forming....

Harveys= Piss

Lambrusco= Piss

better off at least upping to a bottle of Blue Nun or Black Tower for an acceptable alcohol level
