There are indeed fewer ladybirds this year. But then again, fewer blackfly too.

I wonder if the particularly cold and wet Winter has had an effect?

The winter was okay by our standards but to thrive aphids would need long sustained periods of dry weather.

Hence the 1976 plague of ladybirds came on the back of pretty much a year of unusually dry conditions.

I doubt whether we'll see a lot of ladybirds this time.

I don't know if this helps, but if it's still there from Monday, there's a ladybird in the Costa at the Ryde ferry terminal.

Bees people, BEES, that's the end of days, when they fook off.

Not one ladybird, wasps in the bee hive, barstrads, only cabbage whites no others, strange year.

I'm thinking of getting a bee hive so a quick few questions if I may - does it matter wasps are in there ? Do they attack the bees ? How do you get rid of them ?

No wasps around here, a few ladybirds on the plot even though there's enough of blackfly about.
Loads of sodding white cabbage butterfly though!!
I've seen loads of cabbage whites on my lavender. They love it, along with lots of bees.
I'm also getting lots of buff tailed bumble bees on my hollyhocks.

The ladybird plague was preceded by a greenfly plague as I recall. Where are the aphids?

True, and not a single greenfly on the roses, nor whitefly on my fuschias.
