The invincible Arsenal team were basically midfielders played out of position. Most went on to make a career out of it

Pretty sure their regular back four of Ashly Cole, Sol Campbell, Kolo Toure & Lauren were defenders.

Lauren started out as a midfielder I believe (Wrongly it seems )just checked
Was it Gilberto a Brazilian that also got converted into a defender

No doubt there are better players somewhere out there for every position, but I'm not too worried about defensive cover - Dunk and Webster top quality at CB, Veltman excellent at CB in a 2 or 3 or at RB/RWB. March and Lamptey, fitness permitting, likely to be our first choice wing backs. Gross can do a job at RWB, albeit not ideal for him or team. Burn, Duffy, Moder, Zequiri useful back up across the back if required.
We may miss White, but £50 million far too good to turn down for a player who has enormous potential, but was not our best CB last season.

This. Lauren spent his entire career playing right back, and Ashley Cole is possibly the best left back this country has ever produced.

Cucurella and a centre back needed I feel. At left back we clearly need someone. With Lamptey back fit we'll be fine at right back, him/Veltman/Alzate are all good options there. I did hope Ostigard might make the grade but now he's off to Stoke. White replaced by Duffy feels quick a downgrade, so a centre feels needed.
