Whoa whoa. Hold up.

Don't have a go at me when I'm NOT giving him abuse, I am saying I am SEEING it, I whole heartedly DON'T give out players abuse. If you see any of my other posts, I back the team 100% because I love these lads and this club.

No, you’re accusing people here of giving him abuse.

The posters above have quite rightly pulled you up on that and asked for an example. Seems a reasonable request.

I don't think anyone is having a go at you. We were just asking for clarification of this alleged abuse that hasn't happened. Questioning Ryan's ability is not abuse.
I strongly suggest you don't go on the Brexit thread it's scary in there :lolol:

There's a thread on here called "Should Ryan have saved that?" full of tidbits. If people want to criticise him, that's their prerogative, and I got it wrong and went a bit overboard with responses. I just prefer to back the team and support them if we get beaten.

So I apologise to anyone I've responded to on this thread and take any comments back.

It's a shame Tim Krul went to Norwich. Would have been a good back-up and given him strong competition. I don't have any faith in Button, unfortunately. Time to recall Walton I think.

I think Walton is a fairly similar, but younger, keeper to Button. Tall, commanding, but not a natural with his feet. I think we'll sell them both in the summer.

That's the problem trying to keep good goalkeepers happy, you can only play one of them at a time. It's easy when you are a side consistently playing in Europe and challenging for cups as you've got plenty of games to rotate decent keepers around in, plus of course you can afford to pay a backup keeper £80k a week which softens the blow somewhat.

At our level it's very difficult, if one keeper is established (and playing well), to keep players behind him happy as they won't get game time. Then it becomes even harder to keep hold of decent backup especially if they know they can get games by stepping down a division. Krul left as he didn't want to be backup anymore. He was willing to drop a division to find regular first team football that we couldn't offer him.

As an aside we cannot recall Walton, there is no recall options on loans outside of transfer windows and there hasn't been for a number of years now. Our only options are Button and Steele as an alternative to Ryan until the end of the season.

Man Utd and Man City both have international goalkeepers on their bench but Liverpool have a goalkeeper not deemed good enough at the end of last season to warrant a spot on West Ham's bench, so us having Ryan plus a sub-optimal back-up and a couple of potential youngsters is about where we should probably expect to be at this stage?

That's not true about Adrian, he was offered a new 3 year deal at West Ham but left because he didn't feel "valued economically". Like I said it's a lot easier for a goalkeeper to be happy being backup at a Liverpool or a Man City or a Chelsea than it is being a backup at Brighton, West Ham or Watford.

Ruthless Klopp at work where his one time number one, Loris Karius, was concerned.

From Wikipedia on his CL final concussion:

May 2018 Klopp stated that Karius was "100% influenced by his concussion", leading to his errors, with Klopp saying "We don't use it as an excuse, we use it as an explanation. For me, it's 100% the explanation [for his performance]. He was influenced by that knock – that is 100%"

In July 2018, Liverpool broke the world transfer fee record for a goalkeeper when they signed Alisson for an initial fee of €62.5 million

Considering how often our 2nd choice keeper has played. I would like to see us only have 2 goalkeepers in our 25 man squad and know we can always promote one of the U21's into a matchday squad if the needs ever arises. Ryan & Walton could be those 2 for next season

Let's face it, if we spent 10-20m replacing Ryan the same lot moaning about him would be moaning we did not spend it on a striker or replacement for the, in their urine soaked opinions, terrible Propper and Stephens.
We can only spend so much money, are people really convinced splashing the cash on a keeper is the best use of our funds?

Yes.

Is there anything you actually support about this club?

Absolutely. I’m delighted with Graham Potter and the changes he’s making to the club, I’m a fan of the style, of the young talent being brought through.

Trying to understand your logic. To clarify, you don’t feel anyone here should be critical of a player or “they’re not a real fan”. Is that the gist of it?

You seem to be critical of half the team after we lost to two of the best teams in the world. Seems like you have waited until we lost to them to get a good moan in.
Try supporting them. It is the best squad we have EVER had.

Eh? Half the team? Not true.

I challenge you to find a quote backing that up. You won’t.

“OMG you’re not a real fan”. Laughable.

Why do you take it personally if someone’s critical of a player? by your logic there should be no criticism on NSC then.

Not after the last two games no. It is stupid to judge then on those.

Falsely extrapolating again (you seem to do this a lot). Again find the quote where I base anything on one game, you won’t.

I’m basing my criticism on this season, which I have repeatedly said. I’m not even saying he’s a bad keeper, he’s just not top tier. I’m sorry if that upsets you it’s just my opinion.

Ryan is a remarkable sweeper keeper. Absolute top class with the ball at his feet. His point blank shot stopping is good. He struggles against quality shots in the corners - this could be down to (dare I say it) his relatively short reach.

It is very unlikely we would be able to attract a sweeper keeper that ticks every box. I don't believe that having another quality goalkeeper challenging for his shirt would necessarily improve his performances - I think we are just seeing his limitations exposed, that have always been there.

We don't have a huge budget. We don't want to buy another first team keeper - if we did want to replace Ryan, it would likely be at the expense of a quality sweeper keeper. Perhaps the best option would be to have an experienced number 2 (as we do) with a young player (Walton?) playing cup games and challenging Ryan for his spot in the future.

I agree with much of this. Keepers better than Maty are out of our reach (excuse the pun). Whatever keeper we bought to replace Maty would be better in some areas but worse in others. Walton would be an interesting proposition for number 2 spot.

Like you said about point blank shop stopping, I do feel Maty is at his best when we're back to the walls defending.
