I like that - do you think we are going to start seeing all unknown Conservatives gradually disaperaing, being marched off to a cell. Then Stalin Brown can out the Conservative membership, that should start a big thread on here.

Better round up Respect and any believers of the SWP,, for their imperialist ideas as well.

Well they already have started on the BNP. 12 members arrested in Liverpool for handing out leaflets. So if the economic situation worsens. Whose next. 10,000 tassers guns to fight violent crime. Yeah right:censored:

Not Luton! Thank God
I imagine, he is only being asked to shop his source, but if he refuses to, then the full weight of the law will come down.

I suppose what I really mean, if something really is in the public interest, you know a cover up, then I believe Civil Servants have a right and duty to leak.

In addition, Civil Servants can also use the Whistle blowing legilslation - to inform about issues of corruption etc.

In terms of the permits, this is more of a implementation cock up not necessarily Government Policy or corruption. Embarrasing yes. Is the function of Government to announce all its warts and flaws. I don't think so.

Just to add, the supply of resources devoted to answering FOI's in my organisatiion, one of the Mayor of London's, is staggering.

It has a policy of openess, because FOI have to meet legal requirements all answwers are scrtunised by Departmental Heads and Legal Teams.

A simple letter or phone call to me on my subject normally gets an answer immediately, work permitting and on average 25 days quicker.

The guy that was doing the leaking got arrested a fortnight ago.

But isn't the job of the oppposition to hold the Government to account? If the Government is being crap its not going to advertise the fact but that doesn't mean that it isn't in the public interest for us all to know how crap they are.

I think journalists and others are begining to realise that FOI isn't a full proof replacement for journalistic work or engagement. One organisation thought that tabling a FOI request would be a great way to get all the information he needed at the minimum of fuss. But he didn't realise (or didn't care) all the hassle and pain it would cause all the departments he asked for information. The result. He got a load of bland information and wrecked his relationships with each Department.

To me its more a result of our very centralised Political and administration system, Ministers and the Civil Service have limited experience of delivery. Once when few major changes were made this system rolled along ok.

But now - its a failure.

If we look at facts, I imagine the Civil Servants have a very long track record, many working under the Conservatives if not Labour before that. Long on Civil Service experience but do they really know the impact of reducing VAT on the shop floor for a small or medium size business?

Let alone how to run Children Centres or grant schemes etc or even any of the services of Local Government?

The Majority of Ministers in this Cabinet have limited if any experience in deciding top down policy, Brown is the notable one.

I imagine, they are saying I like that, do it and do it now, the Senior Civil Servant says Yes. And cock up, especially if Darling is involved, follows.

Socialism will never work long term although this time they have had a good stab at.it The TORIES will be back in 2010 or 2011 and then those who are able to make the best of themselves will prosper once more and not get held back my the dross.

Look at the Albion for instance.

Under the Tories we get promoted to what is now the premier league and get to an F A Cup Final.

Days after Labour are installed The Albion have a crucial life threatening match against Hereford, a few months after Labour are installed The Goldstone is demolished.

Come on Cameron we are waiting for you.

Socialism you say this so called Labour party would'nt know a socialist if one got up and gave them a Glasgow slapping, they are watered down tories and no more.

Do you single out Labour as the only party you don't trust? Surely all politicians are as untrustworthy as the next. Look at George Osbourne and his sojourn in Corfu. They are all as bad as each other.

thats the sensible reply they are all a bunch of shifty sods

it did also occur to me when this story broke that if he gave the list of Labour politicians that were or did vote for the 42 day rule then surely this would bring them to the notice of some of the fanaticals we have roaming this land.

Still signing on, then ?

Good on him for leaking the information. Whilst every govt. keeps secrets from the general public, I do not trust the spinning Labour Party as far as I could throw Geoff Capes, whilst under the influence of a well known sedative.

Ha ha.

Yes people, leaking confidential information is not frowned upon.
If it were a labour minister found doing it, the hypocrit party (aka tories) would be crowing for heads to roll and for Brown to step down.

Spin spin spin, it's all a tangled web now. The Conservatives are heard defending this person only in a way that can point fingers at Labour.
It's good to hear Brown shouting them down lately, the Conservatives really are a pathetic party nowadays.

Sorry i can't put it more eloquently but what a bunch of cnuts this Scottish socialist party are.

(And this coming from an ex labour voter)

I would really love to give that Brown a smack in the drooping jaw.

I will now be the subject of secret police surveillance and have my PC confiscated and be labelled a responsible white law abiding straight married tax paying English father and suffer the consequences of this.

But Labour haven't necessarily done this, well not that we can prove anyway.

The poll you are quoting was actually done prior to the Green business too and the 4% gap was recorded in another poll, ICM still had the gap at about 11 points last month too.

MORI, the ones who had the 4% gap you refer to have now got it as 11%.

The odd thing is YouGov's poll still only had the gap around 5% and YouGov and usually one that has the biggest Tory leads from past experience.
