Although I didn't really rate him when he was with us, I still thought he was a bit of a legend. Will never forget him giving us the thumbs up when we went 2-1 up at Reading!!

Having said that, my thoughts on him as a footballer changed when we were at Brentford earlier in the season. Thought he single-handedly destroyed us and, playing like that, he would have been the perfect foil for Leon.

I liked him and would have wanted him here. He went down in my estimation by turning us down.

He then had to wait right up to the start of the season before getting another offer (which was probably no more than we offered)
Greediness is an unattractive character flaw. (Unfortunately one which many footballers possess)

The alleged figure offered to Rougier was £500 per week. Someone in the know may correct me. If that figure is correct, I can't really blame Rougier for turning that figure down initallly. By todays standards it is a pittance.

Footballers have a short career. Unless anyone is trylu pissing on you, then I dont begrudge any player going to another team for more money (as long as they will feature regulary)

I like Roug, gave his all but in fairness he is probably in the Peter Smith catergory. can be good, in fact very good, but most likely to be a crock of shite. He always gives 110% which is why he is a hero at most clubs. Yes he was good at Brentford but I'd hardly say he destroyed us. He is a legend for desire towards us, he clearly likes us as per his appreciation after the Brentford/Reading game but I dont think he would have added to our squad this year at all.

He was shit.

So he played well against us for Brentford - where are Brentford in the league then? He can't be that good.

I do not doubt his enthusiasm and I think he really warmed to the appreciation shown by the Albion faithful, which it appears was a stark contrast to what he experienced at Reading.

However, there was a distinct lack of skill and I think any awkwardness he gave defenders was due to the fact that he simply did not know what he was doing.

He had an outrageous run of luck in front of goal which is not likely to be repeated in his career.

Zamora played for us last season do you think he's shit?

You're probably right Bozza but I wish some of our players showed as much enthusiasm as he did.

To throw the cat amongst the pigeons I think Rougier was clumsy and I also think that Benjamin is in the same mould.
Any goals he has scored on loan have been down to luck.

I'm sure *you* know what you're talking about. :dunce:

Bit harsh that actually - the difference between Zamora last season for us and Rougier for Brentford this season is:

Zamora scored 14 having been out injured for about 12 games IN DIVISION 1

Rougier has scored a handful for a Brentford side struggling to avoid the drop from DIVISION 2.

Rougier is not good enough for the Albion.

Rougier was class!!!

Whoever was at the Ipswich game at Portman Road would think the same, that chant of la la la rougier was spinetingling!

Quality entertainment too, handballing it when he was try to chest it down, and capable of some of the funniest things ever seen on a football pitch!

He would have been a good squad member this season, and would have linked up well with Knight. Cant remember the last time a player has talked about the Albion with such affection and his reactions at Brentford and Reading were first class!

Legend:clap:

Rougier added some much-needed impetus to the team and he was really keen to join us.

I think if you were a professional footballer and offered a package based around a £500 per week basic salary, you would turn it down too.

Personally, I'm not too fussed. In the long term, I dont think it would have been a great signing.

Bozza & Simster have summed it up perfectly. Beeney, you have almosted admitted as much by saying

Yorkie-I see sort of where your coming from re Benji & Roug but I wouldnt call his goal against Plymouth lucky to be honest. Benji is good at this level, can do it in the 1st (as proved last year) but not good enough for the Prem. I think its unfair to lable them both the same player

highly disagree with you there Yorkie, he stated that he had a family to look after and that the BHA wages we're not enough. Would you take a lesser paid job if it meant putting financial straints on your family? He made the right move for him and his family, nothing wrong with that, no point being bitter just because we did'nt offer him enough to entice him down here.

I wont forget the end of the 4-0 drubbing when we we're singing his name and he came over and applauded us for several minutes, Legend in my book!
