Saints v Brighton - latest

By Graham Hiley

George Burley was forced to ring the changes again as the injury crisis deepened with three more players ruled out.

Rory Delap's ankle injury flared up after Cardiff and there was not enough time between games for him to recover. Neil McCann was ruled out by an Achilles problem while Kenwyne Jones had his foot stamped on at Ninian Park and was also sidelined. Leon Best was given his first start of the season in his place.

Nigel Quashie though recovered from a knee problem to return to midfield with Nathan Dyer shaking off a dead leg to take over on the right of midfield from Teho Walcott who was rested.

Tomasz Hajto shook off a minor knock to replace Matthew Mills in defence and David Prutto dropped to the bench in favour of Yaonn Folly who was given his second start of the season.

Birghton were missing former Saints favourite Jason Dodd with a persistent back problem as well as Charlie Oatway with a broken ankle.

Saints: Niemi, Baird, Kenton, Hajto, Cranie, Dyer, Quashie, Delmadi, Blackstock, Best. Subs: Ormerod, Walcott, Prutton, Mills, Smith.

Brighton: Chaigneau, Mayo, El-Abd, McShane, Carpenter, Butters, Frutos, Carole, McCammon, Robinson, Lynch. Subs: Jarrett, Cox, Elphick, Gatting, Kuipers.

Referee: Mike Riley (Yorks)

Maybe Michel's distribution a factor? McGhee must have his reasons. Lets just leave it at that. Down to the bare, bare bones, hence Mayo in midfield. Thats a throw back!

Which is why we are bidding for Wayne. His distribution is better.

We must remember that we have had a lot of games in quick succession and still have the FA Cup game to go....

He has just come back from a long long injury and perhaps it is tactical.
Can't see it being about the injury, he's been playing for the last month or more without a problem and if it is the injury why risk him on the bench?...

MM is clueless i tell the.

McGhee is pissed. George Burley must be wetting himself. Not only have we put out a weakened team because we were forced to through injury, MM has decided to give us a further handicap with a player that was last reported to be heading towards the Channel Tunnel. f***ing idiot, and no matter what his previous successes, he needs to go now, get someone else it to at least give us a chance to stay in this division.

John Burridge is coming to us. He's going to understudy Joe Corrigan.

We need keepers for the future.....

Dropping the FDM from the team and Leon from the squad entirely...

This is either going to be a cricket score for southampton or one of the greatest rabbit out of hat pulling feats of magic ever.

Sadly, I know what my money will be on...

McGhee doesn't really seem to rate FDM, which I can understand. Flo vindicated the decision on the whole, should keep his place now.
