Kuipers - am I being harsh?

Should have stopped the first one, he didn't seem to get off the ground. I realise that the shot was dipping and well hit but I really think he should have done better, will obviously retract this if i see the replay and it really was that well hit. Second goal he seemed to have absolutely no idea what was happening and have no control of his 6 yard box. All round disappointing night for the big man.

On a side note I enjoyed the fact that Gillingham kept their two strikers on the half way line when defending corners.

That side note is something which really gets to me. Why don't we leave players back?
FDM should certainly have done better with the second goal. The first was well struck so I'm not sure he could have done anything with it.

You are being very harsh about the first one. He had no chance whatsoever with it. A great shot that dipped. Absolutely nothing he could do.

You are right for the second - he failed to control what seemed an easy ball. We cleared but only to them and it ws blasted in.

It was a poor mistake but thay all made mistakes, didn't they?

I love FDM dearly but he cost me a hundred and seventy quid last night. Had a fiver on the Albion to win 4-1 at 33/1

That's his sponsor money gone down the swanee. ;)

First one was a wonder strike which I bet the same player would not repeat in 100 attempts.

We are quick at breaking and how many goals have we conceded from corners this season? I don't think we should definitely keep everyone back or definitely keep a player or two on the half way line, but assess each indvidual situation and the way the game is going.

I thought that was a strange decision personally. They were both big lumps and strong in the air.

FDM has given us good service over the last 8 years, but we really should be looking at a long term replacement at the end of this season.

I was in the West Stand last night.

That first goal was a fantastic strike. Not only was it dipping but it was swerving all over the place as well. Kuipers didn't really stand a chance.

I'd concur with Badger. I don't think there are many 'keepers in our division who would have got a glove to that first one - it was an absolute beauty, I applauded it.

Horrible flap for the second one, but if he's going to do that, at least he did it when 4-1 up against 10 men, eh?

On the corners, if they've come up with a tactic they like when defending corners and genuinely believe we can break quickly and more effectively from our own half, fair enough. But to leave nobody up when facing 10 men, (and even 9 men until Robinson was, grudgingly it seemed, sent forwards) just seems daft to me.

Far worse was the free kicks. WTF? Why do we spurn chances for an unopposed shot at the goal with pointless overelaboration? Fraser, who I thought had an absolute stinker last night, messed the first two up. When we get a third, finally we take a shot and it leads to El Abd's goal. Hopefully that won't have gone unnoticed by the management.

Agreed. I don't think many keepers at a higher level would've stopped it either. Kuipers was only a couple of yards off his line and still got nowhere near it.

Which is why I'm questioning him.
