To be fair their professional status is irrelevant. There's a lot of televised amateur boxing - and very good it is too. (Not saying that this will be)
How many amateur bouts are pay per view?
TBH I feel like this devalues boxing less than the Nigel Benn comeback somehow, at least they aren't pretending to be something they aren't

This. But this sport like any other will always have its gatekeepers. It's not like they're fighting in a barn bare knuckle ffs. These lads have done more work in a boxing ring than 99% of the people moaning about it. They can do a PPV for an amateur bout because people will pay for it, the same way people paid for the Floyd v McGregor circus.

I have no more than a passing interest in boxing, but I read this piece because a) I like Steve Bunce as a bloke, a raconteur and a decent judge of boxers and boxing and b) Jnr Bobkin has been going on about the fight for a while.

I thought it was quite an interesting take on the whole event, which shifted my opinion slightly from 'this is just going to be a shitfest and why are these two mugs actually boxing?' to something more rational about what it could/will do to boxing. Yes, it's clearly about the money on all sides, but that's nothing new with boxing promotion and high-profile fights in general, is it? Eddie Hearn is a businessman, first and foremost, and if he sees the value in it – not just for one night, but for years/generations to come – then it's got to be a good thing for the fans, right?
It's not like the cards are likely to be filled with amateurs and wannabes instead of the main men – the actual proven fighters and champions. They are always going to be around. What, I think, this fight does is bring in new fans to the sport and ultimately generate more money for all of them, which is good for the business as a whole.
It's all very well saying that 'stunts' like this one reflect badly on boxing, but when you've got Fury going off to 'fight' in the choreographed charade that is WWE and Mayweather fighting that Japanese kickboxing fella on NYE for megabucks, that argument doesn't hold as much water as it used to... IMO, like.

On TV? I haven't the faintest idea, this might well be the first for all I know. I don't see what that's got to do with it though, after all I have paid to watch amateur boxing before.
Yes, on TV. Because you said "There's a lot of televised amateur boxing". This one isn't on any channel you can just access (though there will probably be a moody stream somewhere for the really desperate).
Two of my mates have done White Collar. I paid for both (once on a ringside table, once standing with the plebs) and a great day / night out it is. It also benefits charity rather than a pair of blagging vloggers and the greediest promoter in town (and I wouldn't want to see any of the White Collar bouts on telly).
She'd be on a bill - doing anything or nothing - above Burgess Hill v Met Police.
Ok, so it's probably the first PPV amateur fight. However I'm still not sure what your point is though. If you think it's nothing but a tawdry money-making spectacle designed simply to part fools and their money then fair enough (and I'd agree with you). But the fact the boxers are amateur is irrelevant.

Make her the ‘ring’ girl then you’ll get another zillion YouTube fans interested in boxing. On a more serious note though, how will this spectacle be seen by conventional boxers who aspire to boxing glory through conventional means i.e. amateur bouts, regional title fights, Olympics, going up through the professional ranks and so on?
Personally, I have no respect for someone who sought entertainment and self publicity through filming and making fun of those unfortunate Japanese suicide victims, that, and other cringeworthy incidents he has taken part in. I suppose some people will just see that as “bantz”.
Will it bollox, they could be having a wrestling match, or a knit off, and the same online audience would watch.

The fact the boxers are amateur is relevant to the likely quality of the bout and safety of the protagonists. There are enough people on here who wet themselves about being ripped off every time Dave Price fights or AJ / Fury pick an "easy" opponent.

Polly never complimented Mrs Crodo on her new haircut and then all hell broke loose.
The quality is a possibility obviously, if fact it probably will be the equivalent of watching Shoreham play Southwick at football - but no one is asking you to pay to watch it and I certainly won't. Safety-wise how will it be any more or less 'safe' than any other boxing match, professional or amateur? As has been pointed out they might both be crap boxers but they have trained, and it's not as if it's some bare-knuckle fight in a traveller compound.
