I am of no doubt Knockaert wanted this, that the low fee is to help him, but that the loan is to make sure Knockaert feels it was a good move before committing to anything long term.

I think Potter, Ashworth, Bloom and the club generally are taking a lot of undeserved flack for helping a player who by his own admission has been suffering with depression since the death of his father.

AK thanked the club for everything they have done for him during this time, a time that he said had been the best of his career, what he understandably left out was that it coincided with what was probably, on a personal level the worst of his life, he lost his father, someone he regarded as having been a huge influence on his life, not long after losing his brother, then due to being probably unbearable to live with, his wife left him, taking his young son with her.

The guy has been depressed for most of his time at Brighton and probably needs a change of scenery more than anyone can imagine, dont be too quick to judge all at the club for acting humanely if this is the case, its not always about money.

Absolutely, but don't let that get in the way of attacking the club; there's posters here who just gag for something to whinge about.

I've not read through all of the 165 pages of comments (good work, peeps) but I gather that the consensus is that you think you shouldn't have let Knockaert go. The consensus among us Fulham fans is that we're glad to have him. Along with Cairney (just re-signed, so don't hold your breath about getting him)-, Mitro, Kamara (not Chris) and Cavaleiro weshould have a potent attack. Apart from his petulance, what are his downsides?

I doubt you'll see much in the way of petulance. In the Championship it will all largely be going his way, defenders left on their arse in his wake as he creates or scores.

A few Gallic shrugs is about as bad as it will likely get.

Start of the season can't come soon enough now. Fanbase working itself up into a right old FROTH before a ball's been kicked in anger.

I DEMAND A FULL EXPLANATION OF THE CLUB'S OPERATIONS BECAUSE I AM A FAN, NOT A CUSTOMER!!11!!

Which is basically what these people are demanding.

Sad reality is that there's a vocal minority who really do like to beat the club with any excuse. The irony is, most of those moaning couldn't organise and manage a stall selling lemonade, let alone have any understanding as to how a football club operates.

There is absolutely no question that he's a good signing for you - he's too good for the Championship. What we're debating here is whether he is actually good enough for the Premier League (the stats suggest he is, but with our own eyes the evidence is not as categorical for some of us), and whether there are other forces at work in this move - he is known to be high maintenance in some ways.

Fantastic Championship player, has struggled a bit with the step up to the Prem.

He'll rip teams apart for you. He can be a bit moody, a little childish sometimes, but there will most likely be enough moments of magic that you'll forgive the petulance.

You should be more than glad, he'll be superb, Mitrovic will thrive off him.

That is the only logical conclusion I can come to regarding this move. You should know that is not allowed on here. punish:

One of our better players, a bad day for BHA.

Downsides:
Very one footed;
Quite angry at times, especially if hit on the nose by a ball - see Everton away [emoji23][emoji23] he then got sent off moments later [emoji47];
Tendency to switch off at times when he should be tracking.

But a wonderful player;
One of my favourites;
Skill level really high;
Works hard for the team without the ball;
Will create and score;

Needs to be loved....

All good points, but his statement on Instagram mentions the club and how they helped him during the difficult period with his Father.

Sometimes, when you have an illness it is not always beneficial to make a move to the unknown, even though subliminally you think you are drawing a line underneath a ‘life event’.

Who knows?

Is it a 1 year loan incase we go down this season?

I'd imagine that if we went down, the best player we could aquire for our attempted climb back up would be AK.

I'd say this is/was a serious consideration. Making us PL ready again should we slip up this season.... hmmmmmmmmm it's forward planning but hardly inspiring if so. That said, he's a great player at that level... so yeah, keeping our options open makes sense.

The new mantra: "Championship ready..."

Am I alone here, I can kind of understand why the club are letting him go, even though I don’t think any of our other wingers are better, but what’s really boiled my piss is the seemingly pathetic fee we’re letting him go for. He will be box office at Fulham.

Just realistic maybe. It isn't a foolish club which plans for the worst, it's a foolish club which doesn't.

Not at all - I totally concur, he's a much better Championship player than a consistent threat at this level. However, he needs replacing and with an improved option otherwise we're very, very light on legitimate quality. Fact.

Secondly the deal is pretty awful, unless we're planning to get relegated then it makes perfect sense... well not really, but you get my drift. We're carrying all the risk: he flops, he gets a bad injury, he only performs okayish... it devalues him as an asset, thus now was probably the best time to cash in on him, not next year. So I remain somewhat puzzled overall, unless a quality replacement (not necessarily like for like, but an attacking option) appears prior to the end of the window.

Thanks for all your feedback which is very encouraging. When you say very one-footed, which foot? Tom Cairney is very left-footed (although he scored on Saturday in...ahem...a meaningless preseason friendly with his right) and we could do with a decent attacking right-footer.

Agree and the club bangs on about the fees other clubs are asking for players, if AK was a Celtic player they would be asking £30m for him it’s insane.

Totally agree. Even if AK wanted out and GP wasn't keen - £15-20 million wouldn't seem unreasonable for a player at his absolute (physical) peak and at his lethal best in the Championship. The deal, if we can call it that, is reminiscent of selling players like John Byrne and Kurt Nogan for relative peanuts.

It makes very little sense at all. It's bizarre. Unless Neymar is due to sign... then I'll take it all back ;)
