Due to my gait being not dissimilar to a "bow-legged 1950's full back , with rickets" according to the surgeon , I now need 2 new knees .
Apparently this is going to be done by robots ! Two total knee replacements . A Mako procedure . Two ops . 3 months apart.
Anyone else had this done , and would have tips , advice etc...

Can't help with the robots, but I've had significant work on both knees and in my eyes James Lewis is a legend.

The key to any such surgery is the post physio. Makes all the difference in the world, and do exactly what and when they say.

They seem to be pretty good now . . . . A friend of mine is in his late 60's, had one a few years ago and is playing squash again!!!

I'd be surprised if i was playing squash afterwards . Given I've never played in my life . But I'd hope to be able to trudge up windswept Northern fells again .

I still play football, the wrong side of 60 and have lots of mates (some of them still playing international level in their age groups ) who have had knees and hips done. From what I understand, the secret to them all is to get yourself as fit as possible prior to the Op and then be prepared to put in the work with the physio after to get fit again

You can't escape old age, but you can certainly put it off for a bit. A few weeks back a mate had a heart attack while playing, but had a stent fitted and was back in 6 weeks because he is very fit. Sorry, I suspect you knew the fitness thing was coming but if you're at the top of Hanover

Yup, the quads support the main joint, so get cycling.

The stronger those muscles are, and less excess around the tum tum, the better.

He really is, one of the best in the country, low infection rates.

I had my knee replaced two years ago, best thing I ever did.

Had a partial knee replacement aged 46. Been back playing football - albeit as a keeper - for a while now with no after effects.

Just make sure you get decent post-op physio. The physio I had was not great and it took me much longer to be able to get back to being active than it should have done as they were giving me physio based on inactive pensioners rather than an active middle aged person.

Had mine done few years back.
Think it was pioneering surgery at the time as the amount of nurses that were coming in and swooning at the surgeons handywork.

If you get it done at goring hall hospital, see if you can get Mr. Shah .......not Mr Lewis.
From someone that works there
