Can’t really offer any advice that hasn’t already been mentioned…..maybe some help for Mrs Harry in the house as she waits on you hand and foot (should that be knee 🤔).
what I can do though is wish you all the best for a successful op and recovery period

I’m on the waiting list for a partial replacement. Do you get a choice of local or general?
I think that's a good question . My friend had a general for her full replacement- she didn't want to hear / witness all the butchery going on.

EDIT: Spoke with her today - apparently not a general anaesthetic but a spinal anaesthetic plus heavy sedation that meant that she was completely unaware of what was going on.

Suggestions:
Depending on how much physio your NHS trust offers (and it varies!) consider paying for a few extra private sessions, perhaps in between the scheduled NHS ones. Really not that expensive in the grand scheme of things.
Consider getting a cheap static exercise bike to get the knee moving (with no resistance).
Get a cryo-cuff

Good luck.

Build up your quads, lose a few pounds, whatever the post-surgery physio tries to get you to do +25%.
Choose your surgeon carefully, I've found a good one but did have an arthroscopy performed or not as they case may be) by a wrong 'un who didn't do what he was paid to do.

My missus got one that just covers the knee area. They can be very tight for the first couple of weeks because of the swelling, but better than having to take her outside and hose her down
I used a bin liner.
Carefully place the foot through said waste receptacle, secure at top and bottom.
Job's a fish.

Not sure they would do that with a local, it’s still pretty major surgery.
True - I'd consider major surgery, but it is commonly (perhaps even 'usually') carried out under local anaesthetic.

This is the NHS link

I have been told it will be local.
When I had a simple meniscus repair (which I have had done 3 times) I asked for a general and got it.
I suspect we can ask for a general and will probably get one.
I'm going to have whatever they suggest (which is local; spinal)

We have a cheap exercise bike
The other suggestions are brilliant. Thanks folks!

At 52 I was told to hold on to 55, I made to 54. The surgeon said you’ll wake up one morning and say’ I can’t do this anymore’ and that is exactly what happened. The feeling of being pain free was amazing. I always described it as ‘tooth ache of knee’, you just couldn’t hide from it.
initally I was to have a FKR but after much debate the surgeon went and had a look and found that the medial compartment was just like a car ’running on rims’ (grade 4 damage which is the worse). That’s the surgeon description rather than mine. however the lateral compartment was grade 1-2 which was very good for my age, hence the PKR.

i was told 15 -20 years but as someone mentioned earlier most people have them in their 70’s so data is sparse.
It is not normally badly painful (except when I get the sharp pain once every few months and can't put weight on it for a day).
But it is affecting my gait, and I suspect the 'compensatory posture' is contributing to my back pains.
We went for a walk at Winchelsea today (may post a pic later) but the back ache kicked in quickly.
It is almost certainly walking with fear/tension.
Can't be having that.
Plus the walk down stairs first thing in the morning is a tragedy to behold.
And I can't bend it enough to cycle now.
It's a gonner.

I am really looking forward to getting to the end of the tunnel.
Not bothered about pain.
But I am worried about infection.
A work colleague had problems with that.
As long as it heals, I'll be happy

In that case how about asking if you can choose the music they sometimes have on in the background? Something by Spinal Tap 😉
