King Kenny Can't Stop The Rot

I thought he resigned from Liverpool two years after that, then joined Blackburn a few months later

Needed a break away from Liverpool, he attended every single funeral and was mentally drained. When Liverpool went ahead late on in his final game he said to himself he needs to bring a defender on or the game will be drawn, but he didn't make the change, so he said he realised it was time he had a rest.

Barrel of Fun

Abort, retry, fail
I don't know how many funerals I went to. Marina and I went to four in one day. We got a police escort between them. All the funerals were harrowing. All those families mourning the loss of their loved ones. Most of the church services finished with 'You'll Never Walk Alone.' I couldn't sing through any of the songs or hymns. I was too choked up. The words would never come out. I just stood there in a daze, still trying to come to terms with what had befallen the club and the people I so admired. The families were really appreciative that the players came along. If they had a favourite player, Noel White would try to make sure that particular player was there. The last funeral I went to was as harrowing as the first. I didn't get used to the grieving. Every funeral devastated me, as another family bade farewell to somebody they loved and shared life with. As I sat at each one, all I could think of was how I would feel if it was my family. It was a feeling of 'there, but for the grace of God, go I.' I find it very difficult to talk about death. If the conversation turns that way, I immediately leave or try to change the subject.

King Kenny isn't go to look long term either.

his previous role was incharge of the acedemy so he should know the talent coming through. he's shown intent with 3 youth teamers in the ManU game, each of which had a good game. getting youthfull, local, eager players onto the pitch or at least forcing the established players to compete, might be what saves Liverpool and gives them somthing to build on. so i think his plan is probably a little more long term than we give credit.

He got 6 months more then he should have. He isn't terrible, he is average, always has been, always will be.

Would that make it a month in total? or three? Face it, your squad is shit and it'll take more than Kenny to save youl. YOu need serious investment in players that are actually good, not big and famous or part of teams who did stuff a few years ago alone. A genuine re-build over the next five years is needed. Aiming for players around 21/22 and building up a team around a strong spine. Not a quick kenny fix.

Yeah, it's so long-term that he's been given a six-month contract - that's really planning for the future.

At the end of the day Dalglish has won more trophies as a manager then Hodgson has away games in England

In the 1980s.

Teams like Wimbledon, Luton Town, Oxford United and Coventry City also won major trophies in the 1980s. That is how much the game has changed. Besides: Dalglish also took over one of the most successful teams in history from (I think) Joe Fagan: you would have to be a manager of Tony Adams-like ineptitude to fail with the team he inherited at that point.

My point was he should never of got the job. And point me somewhere I have said we don't need to improve the squad? I've been saying it for about 5 years. And what your saying we need to do is what the NEW owners are doing, my point is simply that in the stop gap from Hodgson to a new manager (in the summer) Kenny was a good chocie.

My oint is that anyone could take the job at liverpoool right now. f*** all change will happen. Roy would have done things had the new owners done something about the shite squad he enherited from the last years of Benitez. I liked Raffa but he did bring on a lot of shit to the side.

I disagree, Rafa would still have the side in the top 8. Despite coming 7th Liverpool battled for 4th the entire season, Hodgson's side never had a hope and at the same time played dire football and worst of all the attitude was that it was where we wanted to be.

1985 - 1990, he won 5 consecutive leaue championship with Malmo. Since he left, they have won twice. Two championships and two cups. They even offered him a lifetime contract.

I doubt Malmo would do a job in the championship.

Some good points there. Your first point is interesting because I agree with every word of it, except the first sentence.

I meant more copping flak on this board, rather than in the media generally.

I suspect many Liverpool supporters know Benitez had some bad buys but the football reality for Rafa was that no decent players wanted to come to Liverpool over the last 2 years while Hicks and Gillette were running the show. People slag him off for Aquilani but when City are splashing the cash, Spurs building for Champions League and the other 3 remaining "Big 4" teams floating around who in their right mind would sign for Liverpool?

It's not surprising they signed who they did. When the Chief Executive buys Robbie Keane totally against Rafa's wishes and then the guy doesn't get a game it's not surprising players and their agents get concerned.

That's a good point. I remember that Liverpool were after, off the top of my head, Walcott, Ramsay and Arshavin and lost out to Arsenal and Barry, losing out to City. And, of course, they couldn't keep Xabi Alonso or Mascherano either - that's a sign of a malaise at the club that can't be directed at Rafa, Woy or King Kenny. It's also a sign of how far Liverpool have fallen since the day when they were THE club to sign for.

Sorry I haven't read all the thread, but my thoughts are that Dalglish is on a bit of a hiding to nothing. The squad looks poor (although he does have two excellent players) and he is in danger of losing his god like status if things go badly. Hopefully someone else (Sammy Lee perhaps) will take the blame if it does.
