After tonights game Mr Capello you know it makes sense.

King would never go. He'd play one game and need the rest of the competition to recover.

Campbell would never go. He'd play one game and need the rest of the year to recover.

They are both better options thn all the other back upswe have. And would only be needed for 1 or 2 games at most in 3 weeks....

real shame about King, but you just cant rely on him with his knees or what ever the problem is. I remember when he did turn out for England he was excellent.

King is up there with the very best defenders, but with his injury it's just not possible to take him to the World Cup, a shame but we have to be realistic!

If we do get to the later stages it is likely that a centre back will pick up a couple of yellow cards & miss a game through suspension.

Would rather have King come in for a quarter/semi final match than Upson or Lescott.

He may only be able to play 1 game a week, but potentially, he will only need to play 1 game in the tournament

But what you say if the exact reason why King can't go. This isn't a season squad, you are only alloed 20 outfield players, usually 2 in each position. If we get a suspension and an injury (not completely unlikely) we are then relying on King. His injury record just isn't good enough to allow us to take a player who we can't garantee could play all the matches if required.

I think that King who is the best central defender in English football, and woulld be 1st choice if he was fit enough, should go and be back up for the odd game that he may be needed to play.

I think Dawson should be considered, King could also do a job for a couple of games if needed. The problem would be if Ferdinand got injured in the first game then King wouldn't last the rest of the tournament

Agree that it is huge risk taking King for maybe 1 game, and if Terry of Ferdinand are injured in the first game he has no chance of playing more than 1 match a week.

Sadly, if Terry or Ferdinand are injured in the first game we will not be hanging around in South Africa for long anyway.

Campbell was immense last night. MOM until Gomes' heroics in the last 15 mins. Bet Wenger is regretting not playing him against Barca instead of Silvestre.

You cant pick a squad on ifs and buts..what if Terry gets injured...what if Ferdinand does.
Chances are they wont and that maybe 1 or both of them will pick up a ban for a couple of yellow cards.

But as BG sais, if you get a quarer final or semi final game and need someone, who would you rather have....King or Campbell...or Upson or Jagielka..

Its a no brainer, King and Campbell must go.

As good as King may be, you simply cannot take a player than can only play one game every 10 days tops.
