King and Campbell

Campbell was immense last night. MOM until Gomes' heroics in the last 15 mins. Bet Wenger is regretting not playing him against Barca instead of Silvestre.

I really don't think it would have made a shred of difference.

As good as King may be, you simply cannot take a player than can only play one game every 10 days tops.

Yes you can, and the fact the Capello is in regualar contact with Spurs about Kng suggests Mr Capello thinks so too.

Capello might not have a clue about Heskey but he does about King.

Capello would not be stupid enough to risk taking King. As people have previously stated, if Terry or Ferdinand got injured in the group stages and then King played one game, effectively we are two centre backs short for the next couple of games.

I don't have a problem with Kings ability it's his fitness.

I'd take King because he's quality. Sure, he'll probably get injured but if we're going to have any chance of winning it, we need to take our best players. The same goes for all positions.

It's not though really is it? I don't understand how people could seriously suggest taking a player that would very likely only be able to play once. A world cup squad is small and you have to have players that will be available for every game. We could get 1 red card and 1 injury in the group stages (not impossible) and then we are looking at King to play every at least 2 games from then on. He's definetely in our top 4 best centre backs but his fitness just doesn't allow him to be in an international squad of this size.

This is in fact the statement that is "spot on"............

A fit King would walk into the England team (and probably any of the top 3 teams in the league) unfortunately with his injuries he would be a huge risk and one I can't see Capello taking. Campbell is good but would you really want say a Ronaldo 1 on 1 with him?

you would rather Ronaldo one on one with Upson or Jagielka ... ?

Pual McGrath could only play the odd game, but the odd game he played in he was immense.

If Upson or Lescott plays, then not only will it be their final game, but Englands too.

On that basis its worth taking King, in the hope that he isn't needed to play, but is able to fill in for either 1 game, or at a time when the games are more spread out.

IF we progress, England would be playing on:

12th
18th
23rd

then

26th or 27th (2nd rnd)
2nd or 3rd (QF)
6th or 7th (SF)
11th (F)

Sorry, I don't care how good he is, but that is potentially FAR too intense a schedule to expect reliable back-up from a guy who's knees swell up for a couple of days after a game, and who can't even train. I know Sven liked taking cripples (and children) but Capello has surely got more of a clue.

Carraghers retirment is a real problem not only would he have provided great cover at right, left or centre half it would have meant taking someone like King would have been far less of a problem.

We dont have anyone who can really play along the whole back line...Lescott maybe at centre half and left back, but does neither of those that well.

However King is still worth the risk in my book.

God i hated him way more than Capello... well i will reserve judgement on Capello until the squad is announced or if he continues to start with Heskey.
Then i will know hes as clueless as SGE
