One of the highlights of The Jenkinsons/Coasters era of Sunday night live gigs back in the day. Them and Bauhaus will always stick out as phenomenal gigs.

I saw them at Jenkinsons, definitely a good night, I also saw Bauhaus at the Dome also excellent.

Nice to see some good memories stirred

I know Outside the Gate gets panned but it has two briliant tracks on it, particular favourites of mine. Poignant, as I was considering emigrating to New Zealand when listening to them a lot - the two tracks giving opposite messages. I did want to be in a place of beginnings, not endings, and I did hear the pied piper, but ignored his call...my love of this land won, even though I suspect Jaz Coleman is being somewhat facetious.......

Have to say the albums since 2003 (Killing Joke onwards) have been outstanding. Don’t get me wrong, the very early stuff was groundbreaking, but since Killing Joke they’ve been harder than ever, and getting better and better all the time.

They're dropping bombs again
And they're doing it in your name
All the rational commentaries
In the papers that I read
Marmalade and buttered toast
And the smell of Sunday roast
Kiss the arse of uncle sam
Oh, to be an englishman

Taking my mind of marking undergraduate essays, and listening to their third album, I just looked them up on Wiki. It is 40 years since the first album came out, and the current line up is the original line up (there have been some ins and outs over the years, notably Paul Raven, R.I.P). How many bands can say that?

Forty years.

So I think they deserve their own thread. I saw them a few times staring in the noughties. My little brother is a veteran of the early 80s.

Here are two corkers from the first album.

Jaz Coleman is an amazing lad. Look him up.

At one point, when my son was living in Canada with his mum, all we listened to for a year was a compilation CD of Killing joke (I copied my copy and sent it to him) so I have my personal fondness for the old buggers.

Nice one H. One of my favourite bands. You've got to stop doing this. Makes me realise how bloody old I'm getting. Now get on with marking those essays.
