On principle avoided Sea World when I went to Orlando.

Keeping a large very intelligent mammal in a swimming pool to do tricks for our amusement. No thanks!

Not that happy about zoos, but at least, whilst confined, they are not forced to perform.

Bizarre that the Yanks are presumably up in arms about bull fighting, but longer term torture such as this is fine!

For an animal thats genetically programmed to roam for thousands of miles, forcing it to live in a swimming pool sized tank is going to have an affect on its mental state, and attacking a keeper is clearly a result of this.

Having been lucky enough to see Killer Whales in the wild on numerous occassions, seeing them cooped up like this is sadening.

The amount of people that seem extremely pissed off by the fact that the animals are being held and made to do tricks, yet don't bother to do anything about it. Well apart from show their displeasure on a Brighton & Hove Albion forum which i'm sure is helping to stop this from happening in the future.

What shall we do? A MASSIVE internet petition?

Abort, retry, fail
I was taken to the Dolphinarium when I was a wee nipper and hated it. Let them be free.

I can't stand that sort of attraction. If you want to see a Killer Whale, charter a sodding boat and go and see them as they should be.

Seaworld SUCKS.

Possibly because it is starved all day and then bribed with fish which it knows it will get if it performs the tricks.

I think if I was starved all day and then given only fish for tea......................
I`d kill someone.

whales are meant to be in the ocean, not swimming pools.[/QUOTe

There are some women the size of whales who frequent the Aquamarina in Worthing. there hasn`t been a fatality let but IT WILL HAPPEN.

Perhaps to avoid future tragedies like this, the killer whales should be muzzled.

An added benefit of this would be that you could have all new acts, including sealions and suchlike in the same pool, with little or no risk of a resulting gorefest. The muzzled whale could be tormented in relative safety.

This wouldn't work I'm afraid. Killer whales kill by butting their prey into the air and smashing it with their tail or by pinning them underwater until they are drowned. Only then do they use their razor sharp teeth to consume the unfortunate zoo keepers.

I must correct myself. Having read the article again it seems this one grabbed her, I presume using it's mouth. So yes, muzzle them.

Things like this always harpoon I'm afraid.

Anyone who sat through all three 'Free Willy' films with their youngs daughters will find this story quite traumatic.
I`m not sure I even believe it. They wouldn`t do something like that.

It sounded like an accident waiting to happen to me - what with our black & white chum having 'previous' n all. You wait & see. I bet the inquest will conclude that Telly did it on PORPOISE..

2 very good reasons why these beautiful but very lethal creatures should never be in captivity....
