Interesting. I doubt his Uncle is that involved in his thinking though. He'd have a better chance of the Utd job by doing 2-3 successful seasons with us than through staying at Ipswich, I think.

Now I've watched that Four Four Two video, I'd like to revise this opinion. McKenna in!

In all seriousness though, the last few days have been a bit of a rollercoaster and I'm still really sad that RDZ has gone. It'd take a real "wow!" appointment to pull me out of my funk and McKenna isn't that imo.

BUT: I couldn't help but see how well our squad would fit that system described in the Four Four Two vid. And let's be honest, we kinda have to trust that Bloom knows what he's doing. So if it is McKenna, I'll be cautiously optimistic.

Think Welbeck and Fergie can serve the role as 'the big man up top'/number 9. My only real doubts is about March and especially Mitoma. They hug the touchline under RDZ and it enhances their qualities. From that video, rather than playing as chalk-on-boots wingers, McKenna plays with 'wide forwards' who move towards the centre of the pitch. (Note that this is not unlike how we played quite successfully against United, whereby Joao Pedro started as our left winger/forward but spent most of his time centrally, which opened up enormous space for Barco. If either of those two put away their highly presentable chances, the outcome of that game might have been very different.)

FWIW it doesn’t seem very ‘Brighton’ to me- not in that we wouldn’t poach managers (we have and we would) but more that McKenna seems too Predictable.

Ratcliffe wasn't involved then, but McKenna's time coaching at Man U might swing it for him over someone with no links to them and a similar CV. Still an outside shot though.

I'd be very happy if we appoint McKenna.

I would be shocked if he goes to a club that doesn't allow the coach to choose recruitment targets.

But that isn’t how it works. The management and recruitment teams sit down and identify key targets for key positions from our data. The recruitment team will then go out try to get a deal done. The manager can still identify and suggest targets, Kayal was a Hughton suggestion and the first thing Potter did when he came in was get the club to sign Adam Webster.

Gone are the days of two managers scratching out a deal for a player on the back of a fab packet. There is too much money involved now not to have specialised recruitment teams, especially in the Premier League.

Ipswich have a head of recruitment and analysts, plus performance analysts too. Their setup isn’t going to be that different to ours. It’s how football works now.

I don’t think history comes into these situations it’s about which club furthers his career, wallet and reputation and is the next rung on his path up the managerial ladder. If you were in his shoes would you go to Brighton or stay with Ipswich?

He’s not coming, his Uncle, a United fan, was dining in The Goldstone 1901 East on Sunday. He’s extremely flattered by the link but has built up an amazing relationship with the Ipswich owners. Loyalty is a huge part of his Footballing DNA, in addition to this Sir Alex is one of his biggest admirers, so he will go about his business and further honing his craft in Suffolk but we could see the ultimate move a few years down the line. (If Fergie is still with us)
