I'm a bit wary for two reasons:

1) It's incredibly annoying when someone higher up the food chain comes and cherry picks us. It'll be galling for Ipswich to lose the manager that got them back to back promotions.

Unfortunately - as we discovered - they are going to have to get used to it - any success means you get picked off.

At least an approach is being made end of season. We've really felt it over the past couple of years with key people moving within a season (Ashworth, Potter and co, Winstanley, Jewell, the medical lot) and numerous players being tapped up during the season.

To who? Middle-aged English men maybe. But to 19-year old South Americans, they definitely aren't. And that's what actually matters.

Historically, managerial stability has been a pretty accurate predictor of success. But that's because a new manager would usually mean a whole new style of play, with all the ramifications that has on existing team members and on transfer policies.

However, clubs increasingly have a distinct style that exists independently of the manager in post, and managers are in fact recruited for how well they'll fit the club's existing style.

So I'm not sure if two-year managerial tenures are as big a problem in 2024 as they may have seemed in, say, 2004 or 1994. At least, not for a club that knows how it wants to play football.

Absolutely this. It is nuts that clubs get a new manager who brings in his players then sacked after 8 months and those players remain. Then a new manager comes in with his players. Etc etc.

And it's not even that we will offer more money (which we will).

It's that we offer mid table stability and a shot at Europe.

Ipswich can offer him, at best the type of spirited but doomed survival attempt exemplified by Luton and at worst the regular battering's dished out to Sheffield Utd.

Let's see how his reputation is when they've shipped 100+ goals. Brighton for him is the smart move. Chelsea or Man Utd obviously aren't happening. But a couple of decent years with us and who knows

The timings will be crucial here won't they?

At present there is no Man U vacancy and there is no Chelsea vacancy. Utd still have a fixture, but Chelsea don't and Poch is currently still there. It's possible Man U lose the cup final, ETH is sacked and then they approach McKenna. But I'm not sure the wheels move that fast inside the Old Trafford boardroom.

I don't see that Bloom will think it's McKenna or nothing. If he's hanging on for a better job, we'll start exploring other options

I've got to say, I do not see Man Utd or Chelsea making an appointment of someone who has never managed in a top division anywhere. I think McKenna will come to us sometime in the next week.

It’s almost like our shrewd owner pulled the trigger before the end of the season to steal a march on his competitors.

Yeah, but we're not signing Ipswich's squad alongside KM! My excitement is that if you take his style of play and apply it to our squad then you get something akin to RDZ, but with a bit more flexibility.

But RDZ and his coaching team all left so I assume KM will take his backroom staff as well?

Whilst I do understand this point of view, look at the players that we sign. I can't imagine he's going to look at our model and think "No thanks, I don't fancy working with the Buenonotte's, Enciso's and Ferguson's of this world".

Interesting. I doubt his Uncle is that involved in his thinking though. He'd have a better chance of the Utd job by doing 2-3 successful seasons with us than through staying at Ipswich, I think.

I wonder if that's why the Farioli rumours aren't going away? Or are we just keeping our options open just in case KM does turn us down.
