This.

His team always played quite narrow IMO, obviously Solly played prior to his knee injury at Liverpool, but didn’t Potter even have him deeper….

I realise BDB ended up on the left.
This is often repeated but any time I watch our positional and statistical data, it really looks like we had people playing on the wing. If you look at Trossard for instance, it certainly looks an awful lot like he was playing on the left wing rather than... wherever you think he played.

What arrogance do you mean? It's obvious from his comments that RDZ wasn't happy at Brighton this season. I don't think either side was 'arrogant', they just didn't believe in quite the same approach, especially re transfers. In addition to that, our results were just piss poor this season, and especially since September. Pretty much relegation form since Christmas. So I don't have unlimited sympathy with Roberto.

As for Potter, I'd be surprised and disappointed if he returned but it's not something I'd lose any sleep over. If we had the same start to 24/25 that we had in 22/23, I'm sure people would get used to it soon enough. But I'd still prefer we were more adventurous than that.
Arrogance in the sense of assuming we will get our top targets when it isn't guaranteed. Maybe it is a bit harsh but it's my opinion.

Why are we so sure, that we were intrested in Mckenna? We all know that the club keeps things like this quiet. We just taking what the bookies are saging as fact. Mckenna has been fav fir us, chelsea and utd. Would not suprise me if nobody have spoken to him or either thought about having him. Maybe its mckenna agent who has been leaking made up stories to get a better deal. Waiting fir the bookies to make RDZ fav for the Brighton job, its the only one he has not been fav for.
Yes, it does seem bizarre.

Anyway, if it’s true he has penned a new contract with Ipswich, guess those same NCSers will decide that Potter is the last on the list and we have no more options so it will all be about Potter now for most folk.🙄

Everything we know about Barber/TB and our succession policy and how tight lipped it all is, suggests nothing could be further from the truth.

I’m still holding out for a European young manger with a similar profile to Fabian Hurzeler or Farioli - Young, up and coming, who fits in with ethos and our football now, not how it was several seasons ago and who has been inspired by De Zerbi/Pep/Arteta approach to football.

Graham Potter did not play the (arguably) the best player in our history, until he had to out of necessity because Moder got injured. He wouldn’t even start Mitoma.

Potter said at the end of that season with hindsight they should have played Moises earlier. He admitted he got it wrong.

He had Mitoma as an option for 6 PL games (brought him off the bench for 4 of them and gave him his first start in the League Cup). RDZ didn't start him for his first 5 games in charge either (he played 3 times off the bench).

Injuries? He wasn't blameless, no, but there were positive signs he was being a bit more pragmatic towards the end.

Also, I think you are blinding yourself to the bigger picture. Yes, form was awful, but we all know that many factors went against him.

Looking back on what Naylor said in April.

No because Bissouma had left. But he still had Gross, Caicedo, Mac Allister, and Mwepu and started with all four against Leicester. Sadly that was to be Mwepu's last game as well.

Those options are way stronger than what we have right now.

So on that basis Potter would fail if he came back but somebody else (who the f*** knows who) would do better so Potter can be counted out, as GB seems to be implying?

I don’t think Potter will be back but I have seen no ideas muted where I think “yep this guy would do much better than Potter”

Poch would be my choice but no chance

Yes, 100% agree on that.

We saw the team sheet outside Spurs’ ground and were, frankly, scratching our heads. The post game walk back chat was “why didn’t we do that sooner?”.

But however you want to spin it Potter didn’t play Caicedo in his seven game losing streak and then did when we turned it around. That’s a fact 👍
I am inclined to give Potter a decent amount of rope on this. Bringing young players in isn't an exact science, and they can improve very quickly (and then throw in a mad f*** up of a performance with no warning). And picking Caicedo didn't do Chelsea a huge amount of good for a decent chunk of this season, it's not like you just go Pick Caicedo -> Win Game.

I found his team's reluctance to risk losing possession in order to actually produce anything from it (and then conceding a goal anyway) much more annoying, because that felt like a systematic problem rather than the sort of selection error that all managers make on occasion.

I can buy that. But of course none of us know the facts. My opinion is that he and the club both played it right and stuck to their guns. Time will tell which of the two has the best ammo. And gun.

I have no idea what GB is implying other than he seems to be saying the midfield options were better the last time Potter was here.

I don't want Potter back, but whoever takes over I think we need more options in midfield. Baleba and Gilmour are decent but one is raw with huge potential and one is tiny by Premier League defensive midfield standards, Gross isn't going to go on forever either. We are verging on needing a major overhaul of our midfield.
