Number of children in the world
2.2 billion
Number in poverty
1 billion (every second child)

I admit I haven't compared theses statistics to our history as you asked but with the resources available to us can you really that this is okay?
So half the people in the world choose to bring children in to poverty?

If you cannot see that there is anything wrong with the world then i guess that it follows that you would not agree with people protesting about it.

http://www.globalissues.org/article/26/poverty-facts-and-stats

Over half the world population live on less than 2.50 a day (a figure that would take our bankers about a second to earn)

According to UNICEF, 22,000 children die each day due to poverty. And they “die quietly in some of the poorest villages on earth, far removed from the scrutiny and the conscience of the world. Being meek and weak in life makes these dying multitudes even more invisible in death.”

Nearly a billion people entered the 21st century unable to read a book or sign their names

Number of children in the world
2.2 billion
Number in poverty
1 billion (every second child)

I admit I haven't compared theses statistics to our history as you asked but with the resources available to us can you really that this is okay?

But is that capitalisms fault?

How many of those starving children live in an African nation whose main problem is there very own governments. Look at Zimbabwe.

Those statistics include Zimbabwe.

Yet no amount of wealth distribution would fix that problem because its a bent Leader who's the issue. Zimbabwe was a prosperous nation until that arse clown Mugabe took over.

And this kind of situation is common around the planet.

Which is why I ask who or what are these people protesting against? If all the CEO's made 100k instead of million the world would not change one iota in regards to poverty.

The same poor people would be poor.

Bank earnings need to be paid either to the workers or the owners. The irony of the protests is that by arguing for some of the workers to be paid less, they are in effect arguing for the owners of the bank to be paid more.

This is the first mass protest in history arguing for the owners/providers of capital to be paid more and the workers less!

No it isn't! It is suggesting that the income of the banks/corporations etc is spread more evenly across society (and within the company is implied). The point of the protest is that the CEO and shareholders of companies are getting paid too much in comparison to those on the bottom rung of societies ladder.

USing banking as an example; The link I posted earlier in the thread suggested that the CEO's of the big four Australian banks are being paid $1000 per hour. A bank clerk in Melbourne get paid roughly $50,000 per year. This works out at around $24 per day. This means that the CEO of the banks earns roughly 41 times that of a bank clerk. The occupy movement would like a cap put on this disparity I remember (but can't find a link right now) seeing on the TV that some legislation was tabled (UK or Australia I can't remember) to limit the cap to a ration of 30-1 (if I remember rightly) but that was thrown out of parliament (because the government are look after the CEO's of companies who make huge donations to their party?).
Apparently this 41:1 ratio is just a drop in the ocean compared to The USA. http://connection.ebscohost.com/businessfinances/executive-pay/history-corporate-executive-wages

I guess what I'm getting at is that, unless you have some kind of great big idealistic society where everybody gets the same (didn't the Soviets/Chinese/Cubans/half of Eastern Europe try that once?), then there will always be richer people and always be poorer people. Plus a great mass of people somewhere inbetween.

There is zero chance of getting our society to the point where everyone earns the same, so from where I'm sitting, aiming shots at the rich comes across more as jealousy than anything else. No, before you ask, I'm not rich, and yes, of course I'd like to be, but we live in a capitalist society, therefore everyone has the right to go out there and try and earn as much money as they want to. It might be easier for some than others, of course- unfortunately we're all aware how the old boys network functions when it comes to certain schools and universities. But as long as there's nothing illegal going on, such as the MPs claiming moody expenses, or someone illegally avoiding tax, then what do we do? We can't say to someone "you have no right to be loaded". How do we judge what someone's efforts are worth in an employment sense?

Banks can be total bastards, we all know that, but I'm not sure telling the head of RBS he needs to take a pay cut is going to change anything.

What can we do, says a tool of the state.

so many in the UK as soo dumbed down by their stuff, jobs, and media input they cannot see what is going on in the world around them....and anyone that says anything different is "a loon."

so you are basically saying anyone who does not agree with you is a "loon" ,i would take capitalism any day even with all its faults rather than have to obey your extremist doctrine of my way and no other way

well done mate for taking edna krabappels views out of context.........you types are always good at that......
you should have quoted her fully..."then what do we do? We can't say to someone "you have no right to be loaded".....unless of course you basically just dont like some people being rich

im glad you can distill it down to that, but the fact of the matter is this message isnt getting across, lost in a sea of individual issues.

nonsense.....the message is loud and clear....

the finance sector is corrupt, controls governments, is greedy, and gives special rates to mega-corps.

goals: end the fed, and no corp funding for elections.

maybe you are just digesting MSM on this issue? use SoTT or RT or other alternative non corp funded media stations.

not once on this board have i given any indication of ANY extremist societal ways to live....my views on MSM and group think are not related to living in harmony. watch the movie and comment on the movie, and leave "me" out of this.

I was rather after a solution, but if that's the best you can come up with, I won't hold my breath.

As someone else has also pointed out, it's not always up to the protesters to have the answers, they only need to pose the question. On reflection my reply was a little clumsy but I found the tone of your post incredibly dismissive, and knowing it came from someone paid by the state to put the boot into protesters irked me somewhat.

right. so why are they Occupy Wall St and not Occupy the Federal Reserve? and what has "end the fed" got to do with the Occupy London protest? those are US centric issues (our party funding is a fraction of US political), so where is the resonance from that goes out to countries all around the world? are the guys and gals in Berlin concerned with the Fed and US political funding too? or have you just picked out your favorite causes from the movement (theres something for everyone).

i see support for the Tobin tax emerging from the occupy groups (at least in London). what has a globalised taxation got to do with the Fed and corporate funding? The "99%" is about the concentration of wealth within the 1% of the population (of the US, no mention of the global picture where most americans would be in the 1%), so is essentially about redistribution of wealth.

so far in this thread we have:
cut the links banks and corporations have with government
bankers pay
end the Fed
no corporate funding for elections.
introduction of financial transaction tax.
redistrubtion of wealth.

the "we are the 99" site lists house repossesion, high prices for essentials, no healthcare (again with the US centric view), environmental pollution, long hour and low pay and joblessness.

i dont disagree with most of these concerns, but its a laundry list of complaints and its little wonder the media skim over it and these causes dont all get aired.

and i realise with a sence of irony i've just done more to highlight the issues involved than anyone supporting the cause. damnit.

Or someone paid by the taxpayer to keep us all safe as we go about our daily lives - put the boot in - ridiculous statement unless you really believe we have a secret police like the KGB !!!! In which case you can join Brunswick on the stupid step !!!

youtubers make videos about the banking system they dont understand?

a currency created out of thin air with nothing backing it, to be loaned at interest IS NOT sustainable....fact.

even two days ago, ukip man told them how it is (not that i advocate ukip or their policies, just that this is all true)....

you carry on thinking you are free and living in a fair system......it is safer that way.

I saw how the Sussex dealt with about 20-30 student protesters a year or so ago down by the pier. I literally stood and watched it as the plod would not let me past when I was marathon training. Totally over the top, unnecessary and looked like they'd been watching the Met on the news and wanted to play at being bigger boys. It was totally over the top and totally pathetic...and a total waste of my taxes.

Sadly history is littered with cases of the police going beyond their limits. Brazillians being shot dead, newspaper sellers being pushed over and killed, pumped up Essex units baseball batting cars.
