Ok fair enough. Made myself look a right **** there. I thought he'd just qualified when he became a British citizen because of the length of time he'd been here.
The confusion arose because the ECB has it's own qualification criteria, which meant that, above and beyond being a UK citizen, he was also required to have lived in the country for 5 years before he was eligible for selection. So he moved over here (on a UK passport) then spent 5 years making shed-loads of runs for Notts and Hampshire before the ECB would pick him for England.
Rubbish. He's a South African who pledged his future to England when he realised he wasn't going to get in the South African side, told everyone how much he loves the team, yet sulks when things doesn't go his way, made an arse of the captaincy because of his ego, only puts in a performance when he feels like it despite his claims of working so hard and now despite his alleged love for the team has quit the one-day format. At the end of the day though the only thing that really matters is that he's south african. He shouldn't be playing for us.
Pietersen's 'defection' was nothing to do with not getting into the South African side.
He came over here because he was being left out of (I think) the Natal side, as they were picking a non white ahead of him due to the quota system. Clive Rice was his coach there and advised him to come over to Notts.
Trott chose England over South Africa, after Mickey Arthur side Trott would only ever play for the South Africa A Side at best.
