IMO he still hasn't got his head together since he lost the captaincy: he's become even more reckless, headstrong and cocky. Maybe we should leave him behind in South Africa when the rest leave!!!

Nope.

Best batsman in the side, by a distance. The stats don't lie.

Will come good, hopefully in the final test of this series.

Will come good, don't forget he has just had quite a bad injury.

Anyone who says drop KP is f***ing insane AND/OR a simpleton.

I agree about the captaincy messing with his head. With a tour to bangladesh coming up we can either rest him or throw him in and hope he regains some form.

Personally I think option number two is by far the better choice, hopefully he'll bat himself back into form against the poorer opposition.

No doubt he'll get some stick on this thread, but to anyone questioning his ability please check for yourself what his test average is.

drop KP

Nope.

Before the start of that last over today there was very little chance of that happening. By the end of the over, with a lead secured going into the last test, there is NO chance of it happening.

England will not alter the balance to play LESS batsmen than narrowly survived today, when they only need a draw for a famous series win.

He is certainly one of the most talented batsmen in the team: but I do believe his head is messed up rather than the more ordinary loss of form suffered by various other batsmen including Strauss, Cook, Bell Collingwood. Plus he came out with those curious comments saying he fell out of love with cricket for a while. Shrink required!!

As I said on the 3rd Test thread, now that Flintoff has gone he is the ONLY batsman we have that can (and has) destroyed test attacks single-handedly.

Even when he's out of form it is still a factor for the opposition captain when decided at what point to declare.

I honestly believe that Smith stuck 50-odd runs onto the Bok 2nd inns total as insurance against losing because of the Pietersen factor. Without that extra hour of Bok batting amassing those runs we would, in all probability, have lost this test.

More importantly, why do people think Wright will be a test cricketer?

It is only really last season that he became a fixture in the Sussex 4 day side and that was not an overly successful side in the proper format of the game.

Because he plays for Sussex and we love Sussex! :clap2:

To be fair, Wright is only talked about as a test player because of a lack of options on this tour. The team almost picks itself at the moment, and before Durban it was looking like Bell had played himself out of the side (and perhaps Cook).

I still think that while we lack depth in our bowling attack, Wright remains a useful player to have on tour.

As for KP, no way should he be dropped. He's far too good, but a bit out of touch. I wouldn't rule out a big innings from him in the final test. To be talking of axing him just goes to show that the rest of the batting line up is looking less fragile.

Wright is not a test player though and I'd be suprised if he makes much of a career in the test side
