Even if he only earns 1k a week that is 52k a year which means he has made about half a million out of the club.
I don't think he was on £1k a week in 1995

Mayo has been paid very well for the job he does and I would imagine far better then he would have got if he were not lucky enough to be a footballer.
Even if he only earns 1k a week that is 52k a year which means he has made about half a million out of the club. Not bad in my book and I would expect it to be more in recent years after Dick Knight rewarded players with improved contracts following our previous promotion to this division.
I congratulate what Kerry has done and have nothing but admiration for what he has achieved here but long gone are the days when low paid players needed a big pay day to secure their long term financial security.
Brighton and Hove Albion as a club however is not in that luxurious position. We need every single penny we can get.
I am all for letting Kerry, especially as one of our more unsung heroes, have an evening where he takes centre stage but what I am suggesting is that any profit made is put into the Alive and Kicking appeal.
Then he would be an even bigger legend.
Richie Morris said:I hope people do not think I am having a pop at Kerry.
I am merely raising the question as to whether footballers need a big pay day like this anymore. They certainly are not as hard up as they were in the past.
The question is even more pressing at a club like Brighton who are ridiculously short of money.
Yorkie, I would suggest it to him but do not know how.
Even making a contribution from the proceeds to Alive and Kicking would be very admirable.

Sorry, but I really think this kind of talk is WAY off the mark. Let's all support Kerry's testimonial year as a bonus for his committment and loyalty - something so often demanded, but now expected for nothing?!

I was asking a sensible question about the funding for this game.
I dont mind paying £20 for Kerry Mayo but I do mind if the club have to foot the bill for the game.

fozzie's headband said:How do you plan to stage the testimonial in July when we are normally lacking the South Stand at this time!
The reason that we don't play any home pre-season friendlies is because the South Stand seats don't return until just before the start of the season.
Robert Lester Zamora said:The club will not be footing the costs of this game (e.g. Policing, Stewarding, Park 'n' Ride; Stadium etc..) - costs will be paid for by the "Kerry Mayo Testimonial Fund"
Richie Morris said:That is not the same thing. I expect Kerry has also got good bonus money for clean sheets and promotions. He is more then entitled to that.
Also, if I work in a well paid job for ten years I do not expected a massive event planned as a fund raiser for me when I leave. The reward for having the job would be the job itself.
Loyalty? Who has tried to tempt the ginger prince away from Withdean then?
gazwag said:Kerry will have to find new employment when he retires from football he probably will not walk into another job.
Robert Lester Zamora said:Let's just say that in one of the interviews in the forthcoming testimonial brochure Kerry muses over his future options after football, and one possibility is that he may become a tiler.

Safeway said:Okay, MY turn to be pedantic. He lives in a completely seperate TOWN to your good self (one being infinately more desirable than the other).
Personally I say good luck to the bloke. Anyone that has managed to survive the Bellotti and Archer days, through Gillingham to be a major part of our more recent successes deserves all the praise/cash that comes his way.
