Even in the last week where we've had more cloud overall than we've had in months, it's still not rained. Can't really remember the last time it rained?? Doesn't look like any in the next few weeks either - back to the blazing sunshine we've had most of spring and summer from tomorrow

You can even fill you paddling pools up if you wanted as the water is being used in the bath/ shower first so it’s classed as secondary water and on its way to the drain.
Fill your bath up, then water your garden to your heart’s content.

In many of the drier states in the US water butts are banned. They delay water getting back into the water table. Large fines and strictly enforced.
Worth considering for the U.K.?

Seems bollocks to me.

Rain drops out of sky onto my gaff, a very small bit of it arrives and comes into two water butts.

Which then gets used to water said gaff as required.

What on earth can be the issue with that?

I collect the initial flow of cold water from the hot tap to a) use to regulate the temperature of hot water in the wash basin (instead of using the cold tap) or b) for plant watering.
As a certain supermarket claims "Every little helps".

Rained in Shoreham during that hot spell …heavy rain now will just run off the surface ..need a consistent amount to make any difference re gardens
