Favourite DP song ???

Me? I can't say I'm an expert- as I say, thanks to my mother's taste for her music, I recall being bombarded with it as a kid and I hated it. It's only in recent years that I've started to realise it's not all that bad really :)

So without any real expertise, I'd have to stick with Jolene at the moment.

I came up with these lyrics for a song about Tony Bloom to the tune of the gambler

On a warm Sussex evening, on a train bound for Falmer,
I met up with the chairman, we were both to pissed to speak,
We took turns a-staring out the window at the Amex

that's as far as I got

@Black Dalek 's band wouldn't sing it either

This has the potential to be a monster song for the Amex crowd.

Love Kenny Rogers - The Gambler and Dolly is a top bird.

Worthing
In my defence, I spent my entire childhood trying to ignore the sounds of Kenny & Dolly in the background at home, not to mention John Denver and the like.

It's most odd that I'm now in my thirties and finding country music increasingly appealing. Weird, huh?

Hold ups ? You've got to forget work occasionally Edna.

And there was me expecting a vid of Kenny's 70s teenbop hit The Bump, featuring Keith Chegwin. What a lovely start to Saturday THAT would have been.

This came to me in my sleep at three in morning. Not sure it even makes sense.

On a warm Sussex evening, on a train bound for Falmer,
I met up with the chairman, we were both to pissed to speak,
We took turns a-staring out the window at the Amex
Til Dick Knight sat beside us, and he began to speak

He said 'lads I've made a life, out of going for promotion'
'Now listen to me Tony, and you just might see the light'
Dick Knight went deathly quiet, as he looked across the table
said 'if your going to run the Albion, you gotta take my advice'

I had Harveys in my Bottle, Dick took down my last swallow
I had a piglets steak and ale pie, and he asked me for a bite
'Now when It comes to buying, and a certain Uruguayan'
'If your gonna deal in strikers, you gotta learn to do it right'

'You gotta know when to hold 'em, know when to sell 'em
You let Murray walk away, now we watch McSmudger run
You never count your points, Til you're sitting atop the table
or you'll crash out of the playoffs, to the dirty Palace scum'.

:moo:

Good thread for a heads up about one of the greatest living singer songwriters STILL churning out good music. Oft country and oft rocker - playing the O2 on 19 August and even better backed by Crazy Horse

OK I admit it, one of the very very few heroes I have

Did you watch Nashville? I too began to find country music increasingly appealing but that might have been something to do with Connie Britton ...

Brighton factually.....
This is country, simple and damn good.

You can see how flat footing turned into bopping for Rockabilles.
