There is a strong chance that the government's handling of the Covid-19 crisis will haunt them in the same way that the Global economic crisis plagued the last Labour government.
All the tories citing the "all the money's gone" note as evidence of Gordon Brown's government incompetence, might see some chickens come home to roost over the next few years.
"We'll lose loved ones before their time" and the herd immunity U-turn will haunt this government for a long time.
Starmer is exactly the sort of leader that can take advantage of these gaffes.
I can't see Bo Jo being leader at the next election.

I can't see him being leader by the end of the year. He's out of his depth and the Tories know it. They're ruthless when it comes to dumping a leader.
And don't forget: he's not personally popular among fellow MPs - a lot of them held their noses and voted for him but there's no big groundswell of support there
And doing down Hancock, Raab and all others along the way. Gove would stab himself in the back given a chance...
Might like Starmer.

Easy in opposition at times of national crisis. Agree with the government where it is sensitive. Bide your time for the odd slip up and wade in. Not involved in any big decision making. No pressure, no scrutiny. Just sound good at the right time. Great time to take over.

Easy in opposition? Labour have lost 4 general elections in a row. Starmer has not put a foot wrong and yet his personal ratings are low. The Labour brand - like the Lib Dems - is toxic. They all belong in the same group as Wonga, Joey Barton and The Jeremy Kyle Show.
It will take Starmer at least a year to change his party from within, another year before the public recognise the Shadow Cabinet team he has assembled and begin to trust the new Labour message. They cannot afford to put a foot wrong in the meantime. He has a massive job on his hands.

I agree that they cannot afford to put a foot wrong, and that Starmer has a massive task ahead of him.
However a post-Corona world will be a very different political climate and he will be ideally placed to benefit from it, IMO.
The centre-ground of politics is likely to be further to the left in a post Corona world.
This will make both uniting the Party and appealing to the electorate much easier for a naturally centre-left leader than it will for a badly out of step and damaged Tory leadership.
