Unfortunately that's not the case - as resignations and infighting has shown this week.

We have the worst Govt. in living memory and probably the worst ever opposition.

A shadow minister looking for an excuse to go and who nobody had ever heard of anyway and a change to the voting system to prevent the cranks getting a go again which they blustered against but ultimately failed to do anything about. I doubt Team Starmer will lose too much sleep about it, especially given the initial response to his speech appears very positive.

Nice to hear the new message 'Make Brexit Work'.

Won't please several on here, they might be miffed to hear should they perform a miracle and get the keys to Downing St they will proudly move on.

What some appear to overlook is that the "loonies", the "trolls" as some have described them are the ones that keep the party ticking over. It is them out leafletting, canvasing, campaigning etc. The "left" are the foot soldiers of the Labour Party and always have been. Alienating the core support who turn out and work so hard for the party is not a clever move.

With all the issues we have in this country, the fact that Starmer is focussed on a Putinesque purge to rid the party of opposition, through an undemocratic process, to preserve his position is a travesty. He is not worthy to lead a party that is supposed to represent the interests and concerns of the underprivileged and poor.

I think the heckling helped him. The cynical side of me thinks that it was secretly encouraged as it allowed him to present himself as the anti-Corbyn.

It was a long speech though and wasn't riveting but perhaps some dull professionalism is what the country needs.

Brexit will always come at a cost that's just counting, but it can work. However, the Tories chose the most damaging route, they don't care if people get hurt, they only really care about their mates. We're seen that over and over again in the last 18 months

Wrong place for that old chestnut....Jezza & Co voted down deal after deal. If you want to go over old ground, we can head to the appropriate thread.

That is exactly what is needed.

The way to make it work is to join the Single Market. Not doing so was Johnson's big blunder.

Wow, a standing ovation at the end, absolute roars at his message, it seems the absolute vast majority of the Labour faithful within the hall lapped it up and loved it.

A rocking rendition of 'The Red Flag' too.

I think everyone would like to hear how to 'Make Brexit Work', as there is no going back

Maybe you have some suggestions for a replacement for the Northern Ireland Protocol, how to actually implement any sort of Import controls on our borders to atop tax fraud and smuggling, how to stop financial business moving to other financial centres around the world without equivalence and passporting, how to replace the HGV drivers, fruit pickers, carers, hospitality workers etc etc.

I would have thought 9 months of watching this happen before your eyes would have given you plenty of time to think of some solutions ???

Its skip fire after skip fire for Johnson, almost seamless. Still no real plan...

Probably best discussed on the other thread. The point about Keir Starmer is having a Labour leader who WANTS to make it work rather than constantly picking holes and trying to undermine the decision. You probably need to move on or step aside and allow the possibility of a non Boris Johnson Government committed to life outside the EU.

Problem is the blue rinse brigade are doing fine. They are retired, don't have to struggle with the gig economy, own a nice little pile in Budleigh Salterton, have a nice index linked pension, can watch Strictly and the GB Bake Off, and that nice Boris has got rid of Johnny Foreigner and given them back their shiny Blue Passport. This crowd would vote for a donkey with a blue rosette. It will always be Party before Country

You are so right, I know many.
Oh and well done on selecting my nearest location for your description, I like a bit of attention to detail.

Those who think the hard left have been eliminated from the party will be in for a shock. There will be battles ahead within when all the energy should be directed towards the Tories

Funny that elderly people who have witnessed both Labour and Conservative governments over their long lives choose unreservedly to return the Conservatives. Bit of a message there.

I think there is definitely a need for some to move on and step aside from a decision of 6 years ago.

In order for Britain to move on, grow and prosper, whatever Government is in power urgently needs to find solutions to the issues I have highlighted, and surely that's what we all want, isn't it ???

As I pointed out to your friend who was so pleased to see yet another Brexit slogan, It's done and there is no going back. It's about how we move forward now. But I'm quite happy to leave it here.
